I use rod stock from Evergreen Scale Models .035 (.88mm) that I cut down and This is how I do it .
[Thumb - IMG_2222.JPG]
I use THE CHOPPER its a lot easier than a Xacto knife.

[Thumb - IMG_2226.JPG]

[Thumb - IMG_2230.JPG]
I apply a drop of liquid cement .

[Thumb - IMG_2232.JPG]
I then grab a rivet .

[Thumb - IMG_2235.JPG]
I position the rivet into place .

[Thumb - IMG_2237.JPG]
I apply more liquid cement to the rivet .

[Thumb - IMG_2239.JPG]
Sometimes the rivets will be different sizes Thats OK .

[Thumb - IMG_2248.JPG]
This is why I applied more liquid cement and let it dry for a while . You will sand down the rivets to the size you want . The rivets will be rough looking and might have plastic burrs . Just add another drop of liquid cement and your done.

Nice tutorial. A few questions.

What exactly is "THE CHOPPER"? Is there a different name for it?

Huh. I have a similar tool made by the same guys - the Duplicutter 2. Looking at The Chopper, I'm not seeing a way to position rod for rivetmaking there. It appears that you're using the tool to make exactly measured cuts in styrene rod - they're all the same width, no more eyeballing it - is that accurate? If so, can you show a picture of how it fits into this rig for doing so?

Good technique. My only (disgusting) take on it is that I will sometimes touch the tip of my blade with my tongue to wet it when picking up the rivet - sometimes I find the rivet will stick to the knife better than the glue for a while. I'm using a snap-off blade with a less pointy tip than the scalpel you're using, though.

I have made over eight 4ft x 8ft ruined city tables in my day and a bunch of Ironkingdom tables that a lot of rivets . But I once built a necromunda bridge that had 1000 rivets . Back then I used a 1/16 hole punch that was a lot easier but for tanks I like my new way better . it works for me . Well good luck on all your future projects .
