Pre-Game Analysis

This game is going to be tough, though I knew that from the start. I'll have to beat Jack with pure skill, good dice rolls and capitalise on any mistakes he makes. If I can knock out the Vendetta first followed by Hellhound then the Chimeras, I should be ok, but it's going to be tough.

Game: Annihiliation + Pitched Battle

Deployment

Jack wins the roll off and decides to go first. He puts all his tanks pretty close together, though puts the Leman Russ a distance away, probably due to area terrain. The Vendetta is at the front loaded with the melta Veterans.

I wasn't sure whether to deploy on the right flank, which only has trees for cover and would put me out of range with my blasters. I decide to deploy opposite Jack as I know he will scout that Vendetta and unload with the meltavets. This trick of his should hopefully net me two kill points in return, if things go right.

* Tactical Notes

Ok, going to be a tough game this one, but I knew Jack was bringing I.G and I brought D.E as I wanted a challenge, or because I wanted my ass whipped .

I'll try and seize the initiative as going second against Guard is never good, not banking on it, but it's worth a try. I'll then blast the Vendetta and assault the Meltavets once they bail out, I think that's really all I can do first turn.

Turn 1

Jack scout moves his Vendetta forward so it's 12" away from me.

Jack's first turn; Chimeras move up 6" and use the large ruin for cover, the Leman Russ remains in position while the Meltavets bail out and move towards my Ravagers.

Shooting; Metavets blast one of the Ravagers and it's wrecked, Jack draws first blood. Multi lasers and the Leman Russ fire and a Venom goes down, squad inside is pinned, great.

Ok my first turn, luckily for me Jack has made a mistake and hasn't moved his Vendetta. So I split Baron off and send him to the Vendetta while the Beastmasters move to the Meltavets. I also bail out the Warriors from the stunned Venom for backup.

Shooting; blasters fire into the Vendetta as Baron really is just insurance, I do nothing. Ravager broadsides a Chimera and manages to shake it. That's it!

Assault; Baron charges the Vendetta and manages to triple glance it and penetrate, which turns into a stunned resulted and three shaken results, nice. Beastmasters rip up the Veterans without any problems.

Kill points - Dark Eldar: 1 Imperial Guard: 2

* Tactical Notes

Ok, looking back I should have perhaps should have kept Baron with the Beastmasters and sent the entire unit against the Vendetta, they probably would have taken it out. Mass splinter cannons and splinter rifles could have dealt with the Veterans easily enough. All in all not a bad turn damage wise, though so far my dice rolls have been shocking - pinned Warrior unit, Baron doing hardly any damage on the Vendetta and blasters doing f-all.

Next turn I'll blast some Chimeras and hopefully get to dakka what's inside.

Turn 2

Jack moves the Vendetta flat out so it lands by the side of the Leman Russ, which moves out to get a better shot on the Beastmasters. Hellhound comes roaring up the left flank ready to burn. The shaken Chimera moves back while the other two move up front, one gives cover to the shaken vehicle.

Shooting; Baron gets shot by multi lasers and survives, though plasma guns blow him to pieces. Multi laser fires into a Venom and I save both damage results with flickerfield. Hellhound and Leman Russ tag team and fire on the Beastmasters, they take more than 25% damage and fail morale and run off!

I move the squad which was previously pinned towards the Hellhound, the Ravager moves to screen them from normal fire as the Hellhound doesn't care about cover. Squad which bailed out the shaken Venom get back in and all Venoms move 6" up ready to drop down with blaster death.

Shooting; Ravager fires at the Vendetta and scores weapon destroyed. Warriors on foot blast the Hellhound and score immobilised. All blasters in the Venoms fire at the Chimera coming through terrain and best they can do is score immobilised, pretty rubbish all round.

Kill points - Dark Eldar: 1 Imperial Guard: 4

* Tactical Notes

It's a shame the Beastmasters ran off like a bunch of girls and Baron got toasted, as there's two immobilised vehicles on the field which both these units could attack. Ah well, that's the way it goes.

Next turn I'll focus on the immobilised Chimera and the Vendetta, the plasma guns can long range fire and the meltas can wait, plus the Hellhound is going to fry my foot troops anyway.

Turn 3

Jack's turn; the previously shaken Chimera moves up 6" ready to plasma death the closest Venom. That's really about it.

Shooting; Vendetta puts a hole in the last Ravager while the Hellhound incinerates the Warriors on foot with some help from a scattered Leman Russ blast, only two Warriors remain and they pass morale. Plasmas in the Chimera which just moved are out of range, though their Chimera scores stunned on the closest Venom with multi laser fire. More plasma and multi laser fires and I lose a Venom and another is stunned.

So yeah, my turn, well I'm not going to get my troops out put it this way. I blast the Hellhound with my only two blasters which can fire, one misses and the other scores stunned - woooo!

Kill points - Dark Eldar: 1 Imperial Guard: 6

* Tactical Notes

Ok, this game is going down quicker than gak rolling down a oil slicked iced up hill side. I've got two Venoms stunned, if the troops get out it means death. I've had hardly any impact on Jack's Guard this turn and he's free to roll up and dakka my face in, gulp.

Turn 4

Jack moves up with the Chimera which was just out of range with the plasma guns previously, I think that's about it.

Shooting; plasma guns rapid fire and explode the Venom they previously went to shoot at, I lose three Warriors in the blast who fail morale and run off. The other stunned Venom gets exactly the same treatment and the Warriors inside also run off, charming. To top it off the Warriors behind the wrecked Venom at the front get blasted by the Leman Russ, I am on a roll with failing morale tests and they also fall back, yay!

Ok, so my turn goes like this - the three Warrior squads all fall back with two walking off the board. I fire my last blaster at the Hellhound and miss, serious fail lol.

At this point I decide to conceed. I've got two Warriors who can actually do something and two who are falling back.

Jack wins the game with 6 kill points to 1. But WAIT! There's more! Based on Jack's army list and wargear choices, his list is 1,040, so over by 40 points! I turn this massive loss into a morale victory, wooo!

Nah 40 points wouldn't do anything, he didn't use the multi melta and he didn't use the demos either. And yup, D.E anti tank can be blame sometimes :(

Ouch, evil mistress indeed. I hate when my rolling goes like that. Roll low on saves, high for moral lol.

I will say this is the only time that i have rooted for Dark elder rather then the Traitor guard , But some Tactical Advice ( not to familiar with the DE codex ) but surely there must have been some unit that you could have used to scout and take out his leman Russ , that Fire Support he brought in looks like it hurt , good Battle Report by the way

Motto of the Imperial Guard " If its worth bringing one its worth bringing three"

There's nothing in the D.E codex which can scout, not that I can think of. The Leman Russ didn't add that much much, it's just a blast and scattered half the time. It's the Chimeras which are the pain, they have decent fire power, tough to take down when against front armour and there's plenty of them.
