So, in light of the recent price hikes, I wanted to suggest something to my fellow gamers; an organized world wide boycott of GW products. Their continued prices hikes are completely and utterly ridiculous. A land raider now costing $75? C'mon we all know it probably only costs them like $5-$10 tops to produce on, thats what? nearly a 800-900% mark up? Thats ludicrous.

So, why not get off our collective behinds and do something about it? Afterall, gas striking here in the states has brought the price down an average of $0.30 in the past few months, who says we can't do the same to GW? From here on out, I personally am boycotting GW products until a price reduction of some kind occurs. I would encourage you all to join me and together we can do something about it. Besides, we can all use this time, like I will, to paint my mountain of miniatures that have been waiting in my queue for ages.

Here's an idea, why don't you quit being a naysayer and join in? I'm sure you'd like to be spending less on your miniatures as well

I think the point that gets missed every time one of these threads pops up is that we (being veteran gamers and such) DON'T make up a majority of GW sales. They make their money by getting 12 year olds in their stores who then have their parents buy them $200 worth of marines to get them started, another $300 for their birthday, another $300 for Christmas and a lot more in between before leaving the hobby forever a year later.

I'm not going to like the price rise and I will be buying less but I'm not going to stop buying things on principle and hope that changes something.

Oh, I certainly vote with my dollar, but the problem is that that is not enough. The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

Yeah, that's a winning attitude.

Also, looking at your signature block. That's a lot of GW armies. Methinks you're a bit too deep in to really start crusading now.

For every person who you can convince to join in your boycott, I can almost guarantee GW can find a 10-17 year old kid to buy enough of their product to offset any loss there might be (if there's any at all) until your boycott ends by natural timing or because the people involved want to start buying more GW stuff.

Also, saying 'I'm going to stop buying!' isn't a boycott. You want to do a boycott? You stop playing their games, you stop painting their miniatures, you stop encouraging others to play (without disrespecting others). That's a boycott.

Well it is due to the interneters not understanding that 1/2% of GW customers are forum rats. The other 99.5% of the people do not even know about any boycott.

There was a Gas Strike in the states? Gas went down $0.30 in the states?

Is there some other place on this globe that is called 'the states' which is not the US? I have not seen or heard a peep about any form of gas strike here, or have I seen gas prices go down at all.

Guys, guys, GUYS!

I have this great idea! Nay, awesome idea! Why don't all the members of this forum stop buying GW products!? I mean, that must represent a whole fraction of 1% of GWs customer base. We'd really show them what for! After a portion of Dakka actually follows through with this brilliant and original idea, GW will be forced to lower prices!

Its foolproof!

I actively dislike organized boycotts. if you don't like their stuff just don't buy it but honestly after looking at your sig I think it is fair to say that you have already put so much into GW that they have gotten their money out of you. I mean seriously what do you have like 4 or 5 thousand models? A little too late for you to start boycotting.........

hey,I'll join in...oh wait, I just went and dropped $270 today at GW to save myself $40 vs. next week. Now I have enough to hobby on probably for the rest of the year....so while you are being angry and stuff, I'll be building and painting and playing without having spent any money post increase...that's a good idea too...

Listen, OP, when you have as much to paint to keep you busy like you do a boycott make sense, But when you only have on army that painted mostly you tend to buy more.

Look man, I respect the principle behind your idea. I think the price hikes are insane too. I mean, $38 for a Finecast single Ogre model? And it's just going higher up? It's getting out of control. Especially for those of us who run horde armies - i.e. IG, Orks, Gobbos, Skaven. etc.

But the problem is, as most of the above posts prove, most people are just going to all over you for proposing such a thing. You simply cannot unify people enough to join a single cause, however worthy said cause may be. This is why nothing really changes for the better - gas prices or what have you. Because no matter how much effort you put in, or how convincing your argument for your cause is, you will always have those people who will do the OPPOSITE of what you're trying to accomplish, just for the simple fact that they know it will piss you off or they simply don't care and are adamant about expressing that apathy.

In short, you're simply wasting your time.
