Some whoes from me. I got the new thunderfire cannon 2 weeks ago and found the qualty to be horrible. There were many air bubbles all over the model. There was no way I could make it work. So I emailed the nice people at Games Workshop and they sent me another. Sad part was it was worse. What going on with these guys? Is this isolated or has there qualty control gone to hell?

What do you guys think?

GW is switching many of there metal minis to resin (finecast) which (depending who you ask) are either ok or awefull when it comes to quality.

Suffice it to say that yours is not an isolated incident and you may end up emailing GW several more times before you get a decent model.

Call, don't email, you will probably get an auto email response saying to please call, so save yourself a day or 2 and pick up the phone.

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

Usually new products are bad quality when they first come out and the thunderfire cannon has only just been re released in finecast, id reccomend sending it back and waiting a while longer before getting one, there will still be the usual few faults but the quality should be a lot better than it is on release.

Oh, this thread again?

Yes, there are problems with FineCast. Yes, we know. Yes, Games Workshop knows. Call them and they will fix it.

It just might take them 10+ attempts. And you'll need to buy some liquid greenstuff.

If it took me three times to get a good Thunderfire, I'd be pretty happy with one good Thunderfire and 2 that would make decent fixer-uppers or terrain/conversion material after some cleanup and liquid green stuff action.

I personally would be happy with one good Thunderfire, rather than waiting for shipping 3 times over.

These are problems that should have been corrected before they left the factory not when I open the box. Doesnt anybody even look at the pieces before they are put in the box?

Like I said I taking it back and want my money back.

Regardless of how bad this kit is in resin I can assure you its better then the metal version.

They will send you miscasts until you have enough bubbles for an invisible cannon!

These are the joys of Finecast. As it is now, I would just avoid it.

I'll take neither.

GW really needs to figure out how to make quality resin casts.

Maybe hire Maxmini on as a consultant?

Sadly, that's pretty much what happens. I've given up completely on Finecast, but my adopted policy was the '3 strike rule'. If I didn't have an acceptable model by the 2nd replacement (original + 1st and 2nd replacements), I demanded my money back and moved on.

I heartily disagree. I have dozens of metal models and no less than 4 metal dreadnaughts ( i can't remember exactly how many). I love metal minis especially large ones. Those of us who like and miss GW metal minis are quick to forget that GW wasn't so great at metal either. Orangepeel, heavy moldlines, moldshift, etc. Add resin and those problems remain...plus a few of resins own. The aggrevation comes from the fact that across the bloody street FW seems to do just fine.
TLDR: metal is fine; it's just not perfect.

I'm building a Valhallan army using nothing but old GW metal models. I have no problems with metal on its own, believe me! I just think kits like the Hellcannon and Thunderfire Cannon are absolute nightmares in metal that are absolutely punishing to the builder.

Less or more punishing to the builder than switching to a cheaper medium and raising the price. (Finecast is rather a sore spot for me, I have purchased exactly one FC model the anniversary marine, the way GW handled it would have rubbed me the wrong way if they were perfect; they are not.)

You try typing when you're emptying the contents of your gallbladder on your keyboard, it's not easy! Also the Finecast puns weren't funny a year ago, they sure as hell aren't funny or witty now.
