So I 'inherited' my friend's old half broken Eldar army yesterday and as I sit running 'inventory' of everything he has i'm dumbfounded by the weapons...i can't really tell what's what so I check out the codex because they bring those nice pictures that show you the models with the weapons so you can know what the weapon is supposed to look like and I realize the eldar codex does no such thing.

Instead you get that 1 page that shows like half a dozen weapon diagrams/drawings and then it just shows weapon profiles for the rest. Being that i'm not an Eldar player (yet) I have no clue how to identify all the bits I received.

So how do the rest of you do it?? Is there a webpage somewhere that shows what each weapon looks like and for what units they are?

Any help with identifying these things would be appreciated.

IIRC Eldar weapons are quite clearly shown and easily identifiable based on current minis.

ahh here it is PG 70-80. Clear examples, most on models of every Eldar weapon.

Star cannons are recognizable by the squashed bulb firing end, the angular arch underneath, and the ribbed portion of the body. The plastic one have a separate bit that goes on the back to make it look more like the older metal one with the three lobes at the back.

Arschbombe is spot on. The "bulb" shape and the "arch" (Front Sight??) are distinctive to the Starcannon.

If you have any doubts about smaller guns the drawings in the units' entries actually show them quite well.

I understand you initial frustration but most of the images Macok posted ARE FROM THE CODEX. If you take the time to look you will find every weapon quite clearly shown in the color section.

^This.

The #2 starcannons are missing their end pieces that give you the three-lobed look of the metal ones.
Yes, they are from different editions.

The metal ones are late 2nd to 3rd edition. Available in the war walker, Wraithlord and heavy weapon crew boxes/blisters.
The plastic starcannons, brightlances and eldar missile launchers are late 3rd-4th edition (wave serpent) the shuriken cannons are 2nd edition from the Vyper model (there was NO OTHER plastic shuriken cannon until the wave serpent kit (chin mount) and the turret used two of the same style as the vyper ones).

The "current edition" heavy weapons have a curved magazine instead of the over-the-top belt feed (and came with the plastic war walker, wraithlord and plastic heavy weapon team) - but they use a tab/slot mount, not the hole mount shown on these.
