so... the storm talon's been out for a couple days now. I've got too many unpainted models sitting on my desk already to justify going out and buying another, but I'm curious to hear what people that own the kit have to say about it. what's the build quality like? does it fit together well or follow in the tradition of rhinos and land speeders (i.e., huge gaps between joints due to warped bits, etc)? does it seem like it will easily lend itself to magnetizing? is the level of detail comparable to GW's existing models or have they put in more? other thoughts & observations?

cheers,

v

It's a good kit. it comes together extremely well and if you dry-fit the parts and give it a good think you'll see lot's of conversion potential. Also magnetising the weapon pods to swap between Heavy bolter / Lascannon / Tyhoon and skyhammers is dead easy since you only swap out the front part of the pod, you'll have to make a choise between the sleek missile pod and the bolter/lascannon one that shows ammohoppers though since you only get one set of pod 'insides'.

I have a little hobby-thread going in the P&M section. Some say it's the best blog on Dakka, some don't agree, most belive it would be better if I finished at least one project some time this century and not just kept starting new ones.
Check it out, you just might like it.

I love mine. I have moved there build up to next model. I am going to swap the pilot heads for DA heads. Overall a neet kit and a strong addition to my army

I, along with many others, agree that the kit is much better looking in person than the pictures in the WD indicated. It's also suprisingly small. Rhino small, if you have an unmodified Rhino to look at.

I'm still of the mind that the chin turret has to go but I'm not so offended by the vestigal wings anymore. I think flipping the "sponson" weapon assembly upside down will change the profile to make it sleeker but that's a matter of taste.

I'm on the fence. It rather looked like a short bus version of some kind of attack helicopter. The ork bomber was much cooler and looked like you got more mileage for your money.

It looks like something that belongs in GI-Joe.

Not in a good way.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

I've just got hold of mine and at first glance, it still looks very chibi (short and stumpy).

The box is far too big for the kit and the kit itself looks smaller than I was expecting.

Everything looks cleanly cast and the cockpit is sharply detailed.

There is a sheet of decals which appears to be a standard space marine vehicle transfer sheet so it covers the usual chapters.

You get a large oval base.

I think it will end up looking exactly like it does on the GW site and needs some serious modification to make it look presentable.

Another day older; another day closer to death ...
