Hey Dakka,

I have been doing some research about magnetizing miniatures and it has tickled my over sized, braided, wolfy beard.

But something I have had troubled finding is magnet sizes for certain minis.

Being in Australia I am very limited to where I can purchase my magnets from (relatively cheaply). The one I have found to be the best is:
http://www.thecombatcompany.com.au/bitz-and-conversion-accessories/rare-earth-magnets.asp

What size magnets would I be looking at for things like:
Wolf Guard
Termies
Dreads
Other Mech

If you have any other sites that sell the magnets cheaper let me know!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

~Sierra

I'm sure someone can give you better answers than I can as I just recently started working with magnets myself, but I've used 2x2 mm magnets to magnetize Terminator arms, 3x3 + 2x4 mm to magnetize the leg/torso joint on a Scout, and 3x3 mm ones for the weapons on my Razorback.

I'd recommend getting a selection of different sizes so you can choose what you think will work best in any given situation.

I magnetised some power armour infantry and a rhino using magnets with a diameter of 2mm and a thickness of 1mm. For dreads, you problably want to use some bigger ones since the arms will be heavier. Same with terminators.
For example:
Power armour: 2mm/dia, 1mm thick
Terminator: 2,5mm/dia, 1,5 thick
Dread & Mech: 3mm/dia, 1,5-2 thick

Be sure you buy neodymium (aka 'rare earth') magnets, as they are the ones you need.

Go here for magnetising dreads. (Also look at the other magnetising articles)

This tutorial is quite good for infantry.

Hope this helps a bit,

Check out this

has a list of what sizes you need for all kinds of different armies and equipment. As for finding a place to buy magnets, have you checked on Ebay? I found a great deal on there, 100 ea of three different sized magnets for $15.00. I would check on there.
