Great looking model. I like the way you did the burn marks on the end of the combi weapon for the meltagun.

Looks nice, as one, might need black guns or black leggings. You know, maybe a little more contrast.

Also would like to see some more models. More to come

The Good: 8,000
Ultramarine, Scouts, Blood Angels, Dark Angels
The Bad: 8,000
Chaos, Daemons, Dark Eldar, Orks

Nice start! I would agree that there should be a little bit more contrast.

Thanks every one I am glad you are liking it. Better answer some of these questions.

Bases. I was thinking of slate bases. Not big lumps smaller ones to make like a rocky wasteland affect?

Icons. I cant free hand for gak. My hand shakes like crazy and I dont have great eyes. It takes me a lot of effort just to do basics like what this guy has and I dont do things that I cant do to a good standard. I will get some of the metal shoulder pads but as this army with have a lot of forgeworld armour most of the time marines will have just black bits. This will be counted a lot by the fact most of the marines will have heresy shoulder pads with the lumps so that will even it out.

Contrast. The silver skulls colours are nearly totally silver. The helmet should also be silver. I done this one black as hes a vet sgt the same way as a vet ultra marine would have a white helm. However if when I do a normal scrub marine the model looks to plain with a silver helm I will then change it so all marines have black ones. I do not want to add more black to legs ect because that is not how they are meant to be although I know I risk them looking a bit plain. I will meet this problem when I get to it with a bit of help from you guys I hope.

Is there more. feth yes. Super heavies skimmers terminators drop pods tanks tones of forgeworld. It wont be instant but I want a lot of random gak in this army so I ca play fun and story based games as well as kick arse in tournaments. Also any requests I would greatly consider.
To begin with though I am working on a 1750 army with 5 drop pods 30 marines 10 terminators a counts as shrike a chaplain and a pair of dreadnoughts (which will be contemptors)

If anyone wants to have a go at the silver its dead simple. Its the new ironbreaker silver with a really heavy coat of nulin oil the new version of badab black. It is truely unfair how good it comes out sorry if I disapointed you

I am gonna work on getting you some better picks to these dont really do the model justice.

So yeah thanks everyone. Watch this space.

Right got a new one for you. This is my lascannon gunner. He is made from many parts of forgeworld and plastic from different kits. I have decided to keep silver helms on the grunts I think it looks quite nice and it seperates the veterans nicely.

I hope you like this guy as much as me. Might have a finished drop pod for you later if your lucky

CC as always?

Love it!
I thought the silver effect might be too much, but it works so well, and the pose for the lascannon marine is really good.
Can't wait to see some finished bases!

I was not happy with the gun burn on the cannon so I have improved it a bit and taken more shots. I have also taken better shots of the sarge and I have just finished a drop pod.

Enjoy.

I will probably leave the bases untill at least a whole squad is done maybe even the whole 1750 point army and then do them in one go.

Thank you for the nice words im glad you all like them.

Done some bases guys. Simple mud base. The darkest shade of brown in the new texture paint. " coats of that and then a nuln oil wash and a bestial brown rim.

That is the test base and here are some quick picks of 3 more marines including one with a forgeworld meltagun.

What do you think. Im pretty happy with them they are fast and effective use the clasic combo of light model dark base light rim.

CC?

Those models are looking really good.

I will add one more voice to the "need more contrast"-choir, though.

Circled in red are suggested places to add a bit of contrast.

Grenades could be dark red.
Eagles/skulls would look good with a dark brass.
The ribbed bit between the armour plates on the legs would improve with black or just a heavy black wash.
Some of the sections on the lascannon would look awesome with an extra wash or a coat of even lighter metal.

Don't worry about losing the Silver Skulls-feel of the models. Contrast will only bring out the "silverness" of the models even more.

Please, don't take any of the above as harsh criticism. All is meant as suggestion to improved your already cool models.

Aha cc with a picture to. The first time I have ever had such and honour

Right ok. I dont really want to touch the grenades. I defo dont want to paint them red it just hits a no no button

I have been in 2 minds about the eagles. I had a couple of ideas with them myself. Red unlikely, black was a very high chance of going black and brass like you said. The proper colours of the skulls have them a lighter silver? I will check out the new paints for these colours at work. (work in toy shop)

This applies to the ribs to. In any other marine army I would paint the ribs silver and wash them black like what they are here. Dont really want them black as it would be to flat. Here are the options I have considered to do. Dark silver. Very likely. This would make them stand out and still keep the silver and after a wash they would look really nice. Or very dark grey then washed black. It would be nearly black but still have lighter bits on the outside?

I will not touch the chest eagles. I like them silver however it is not out of the question that the skulls in the centre will be pulled out in a different colour.

How are these thoughts for you Steelmage99? Any in paticular you like the sound of?

instead of a wash in the ribs, i suggest a dark grey with a black wash... thats basically the way i paint all my blacks so i dont really need to highlight them as much
looking at the pic below i see 2 colors of metals... dark grey for the body and a light silver for the chest eagle, head and shoulderpad trims.
last thing, if i look at pictures of the silver skulls i see red squad designations. those will also help the contrast.
the gun casings could be black, and if you paint the detail on there with a dark brass it will be pretty cool looking!!

Very luverly.

I like all that you have done.

Don't worry, I won't try to convince you to paint the grenades red.
Might I suggest a dark green? Or even a nice dark blue to tie in with the other light blue you have used?
