I searched for this but couldnt find it. i have read most of the HH books so and thoughts

Destroyed and Forgotten.

I believe one of the Primarchs went Chaos, which caused his brother to kill him. The Primarch was so shocked of what he did, he fled into space, never to be found. The one that fled is the Lost one. The dead one is the Forgotten one. Tp keep the whole Chaos thing from spreading, the Primarchs took a vow of silence and erased all history, but it planted the seed for Heresy later on.

Legions, there are likely dozens of forgotten Chapters.

I kind of like the mystery around them, not sure they could do it justice by revealing it.

Although they are not revealed "so that players can create their own legions" it is generally so negatively viewed to do so in the community that i think GW should go one of two ways with them.

A) Reveal what exactly happened to cause them to be expunged, but don't reveal too many details about the legions themselves,

or

B) Reveal the names/ characteristics of the legion and/or Primarchs but don't explicitly say what they did.

it compares the primarchs to their most suited card in the tarot, its completely fan made but is pretty neat if you'd like to see what the "Lost Primarchs" were like. although there is nothing about the chapters.

Its rumoured one might have been destroyed by the space wolves and the other absorbed into the Ultramarines. Nothing official though, and there never will be unless GW wants to boost sales at some point.

According to The First Heretic, the 2 legions disapered at different times as it says at both these times the number of Ultramarines swelled.

I think just the primarchs and maybe the leaders where killed or banished or whatever

This is all just gossip from a few disgruntled Word Bearers. Even the author of that book, A-D-B, has confirmed that, and said he sometimes thinks he wouldn't have included it if he had known how many people would take it and run with it, lol.

The truth is, there's no actual back story for the Missing Legions. There's literally NO fluff for them. They exist solely as "They are gone, and nobody talks about them except to say that they never talk about them." The original fluff for them was that the "expunged" legions were actually expunged as a reward for two legions that turned traitor but then switched back. The reward was that their records were destroyed so that nobody knew they went bad. However that bit of fluff is twenty years old, and completely irrelevant now and completely incompatible with the "modern" incarnation of the Horus Heresy.

The only truths about the Missing Legions are this:

They did, in fact, exist.
They are gone, and they disappeared very early. In fact, they are gone before the Emperor even discovers all of the Primarchs. Corax, for example, says that he never even met the missing primarchs in Deliverance Lost.
None of the Primarchs who did know what happened will talk about it.

Everything else is rumor.

I say chaos. But it didnt happpen at the scale of the heresy so it gave the Big E the ability to expunge them

I've always presumed they were failed experiments deemed unworthy by the Emperor, destroyed before the Great Crusade got into full swing. They may not have even had fully developed primarchs to get dispersed around the galaxy.

I would liken them to an experiment with lab rats- the experiment showed positive results with some, negative results with others, and a few test subjects died proved unusable before the experiment progressed past the initial stage, but still had test subject numbers allocated. The missing chapters aren't worth even mentioning.

I hope GW keeps them as unknowns, I don't want everything to be precisely defined all the time.

The Forgotten I'm not sure of, speculating why they were forgotten keeps ending up hitting dead ends.

The Purged seems to be a fairly easy guess as to what happened, they turned against the Emperor and had to be crushed.
