this idea? I call it rent a political/royal leader.

For say a large sum of money you could rent the Queen and or President for the day, to run around do stuff, have dinner, play paintball ect.

For a smaller amount you could rent the Prime Minister, Vice President, or your choice of Presidential candidate.

Would be a great way to get rid of debt, and entertain everyone while doing so.

So the Trekkies are zipping around at warp speed taking small chucks out of an nigh-on infinite amount of ships, with the Imperium being unable to strike back. feth it, says central command, and detonates every vortex warhead in the fleet, plunging the entire sector into the Warp. Enjoy tentacle-rape, Kirk, we know Sulu will." -Terminus

I think that would be a terrible idea as even the most innocuous "renters" could be terrorists with the intent on kidnapping your head of state and then subsequently paralyzing your nation as they try and save him/her.

A Hollywood situation to be fair, but it sounds like the plot of a bloated budget blockbuster staring Rob Claude Van Damme.

It doesn't really get rid of debt though does it?

Countries aren't run by politicians, they're run by the civil service.

True, but the head of state is still quite integral to the political system. It may not break down completely if you lost one for a day, but if this was happening a lot then you'd be in trouble fairly quickly.

Why not former heads of state that no one cares much about like Brown or Blair or Bush. Seeing as they aren't doing much these days that I can tell.

Cameron already does this, £200,000 for a dinner (with added "word in the ear"), so a whole day might be somewhat expensive.

The only past world leader I can even think that might do this is Bill.

The problem is that the only people that could afford to do it... Already do... minus the paintball.
