My first attempt at a Black Templar list.

I want all the criticism and suggestions you can throw at me to make it the best it can be!

Black Templar 2000 points:
-------------------------------------------
HQ

140 - Emperor's Champion - Accept Any Challenge Vow
145 - Marshal - storm shield, lightning claw, terminator honors, melta bombs, holy orb of antioch

ELITE

215 - Terminator Assault Squad - pair LC x3, TH / SS x2, Furious Charge
270 - LRC - dozer blade, multa-melta, POTMS, extra armor
160 - Venerable Dreadnought - twin las cannons, extra armor, Tank Hunter

HEAVY

125 - Destructor Predator - LC sponsons
125 - Destructor Predator - LC sponsons

TROOPS

219 - Crusaders - Initiates x7, Neos x2, power fist, meltagun, frag grenades
------------> Rhino - smoke launchers

219 - Crusaders - Initiates x7, Neos x2, power fist, meltagun, frag grenades
------------> Rhino - smoke launchers

219 - Crusaders - Initiates x7, Neos x2, power fist, meltagun, frag grenades
------------> Rhino - smoke launchers

154 - Crusaders - Initiates x5, LC, plasma gun
------------> Rhino - smoke launchers

= 1991

----------------------------------------------------------------

Obviously, with my entire army re-rolling misses in melee combat I want to get them into assault.
This list seems pretty straight forward to me strategy-wise:
Put the Marshal with the terminators in the LRC and charge the enemy with a Crusader squad in support.
Put the Champion with a Crusader squad and charge the enemy with a second Crusader squad in support.
The small Crusader squad objective sits and gives fire support.
Dread and preds give heavy fire support.

Hit me up with C&C, I'm new to Black Templars!

Good close-combat BT list overall, I'd lose the melta-bomb on your marshall since he's gonna ride with some hammer-termies anyway who will do a better job at popping vehicles.

As a word of caution: BTs are not as badass in CC as they appear, they might have an edge on standard SMs but BAs, GKs will tipically fair better.

Surprisingly a shootty BT list can do really well as they have access to cheap LCs in their crusader squads, double CLs in their tactical Termies squads and typhoon land speeders.

Your got a good starting list though, have fun with it!

Assault is fun and all; However, I would make room for a few typhoons for fire support by getting rid of the last crusaders, though extra scoring unit may very well be needed.

Just remember to look at the FAQ while you make your list, Storm Shields are now 5 points more than whats written in the codex.

If you plan on attaching the Marshall to the terminator squad then go ahead and drop the honors and orb for termi armor, then pick up a mantle. If not get one anyway and try to pick up some artificer armor. Dropping some neos would get you the points you need.

With that said I would have to echo MFletch's advice and drop the last squad for some typhoons. They can be little nussances that have to be delt with or they can really cramp your opponents game.

BT uses the Codex Astartes as toilet paper. They’re an Imp Fist successor, recruit from multiple planets, and are known to be the largest Chapter in the galaxy. They’re on a constant Crusade, keeping it real for the Emperor and not bumming around like the other guys. They hate psykers and can’t ally with them. They’re basically an entire chapter of Chaplains. CC lunatics. What every Space Marine should aspire to be, if not trapped in a Matt Ward nightmare.

Yeah, I still think storm shields for my ICs is a bargain at 15 points!

Welcome to BT, as a BT you must know we are the best,

Well thats the introduction, now to ur list. Generally i would say Hybrid lists are very tricky to play, until you can fully understand the army and little tricks id suggest either doing a Shooty list or Assault list, that being said, i have a few suggestions that would make it more a hybrid list id use that id feel comfortable w/.

First for ur Marshall if you are going to put him in the Assault terminator squad TDA, LC, SS, Mantle best load out for him. If you are afraid he might get assaulted by a walker or MC give him a PF but i wouldnt reduce his normal attacks just for one bomb. For ur terminator squad id drop the LRC they are going to be in and give them 4 more termies all w/ TH, SS (normally i only role TH/SS for allmine but this is more toward ur list)

Ur Ven dread is beastly, last game i played first turn blew up a LR, id suggest giving him a ML if you plan on keeping him in the back might as well get another str9 shot.

Pred's arent bad..... Maybe give them PotMS so you shoot LC at one thing and AC at another...... OR...... Get Vindicators to deal with hordes, cause right now a Horde Ork list would destroy you. You just couldnt get enough shots down range.

Troops arent bad, lose the Frag you dont need em, i think ive assaulted into cover once and still wiped them. For ur Neos make sure one has Shotgun and one has CCW for 2 different wounds. Normally i like to have 2 Shooty Squads (drop one assault one) this way they dont just target that one rhino they have to worry about that other one and all ur stuff going up the field.

Now IMHO the bread and butter of BT, Landspeeder Typhoons if you dont have to models id suggest gettting em. I run 3 2man squads and they make their point first turn normaly and by turn 5 they have made over triple their points. Now they are a lil tricky if you take em, i wouldnt suggest takeing 3 1man squads bc those are easy 3 KP and i wouldnt sugest and squads of 3 cause then they attract way to much attention. And remember they can give all ur vehicles cover saves if you place tehm right

Other than my advice most of the other advice i agree w/ some i reqouted in this. But NEVER EVER Listen to Akroman06 hes a nub and should never play BT's or 40k again......

Hi Nettik189, thanks for the useful info. You have certainly opened my eyes to the typhoon and I'm making plans to use them for sure. When I looked them up I realized it is 20 points cheaper than most other chapters pay for it. Booyah! I've noticed that the Templar codex is FILLED with bargains, except for rhinos/razorbacks. But wow, lots of great bargains for this army.
