I've been looking around threads here and in other forums, reading reviews, advice, etc. etc. for starting Infinity and Haqqislam for a while now, but I'm not entirely satisfied with what I've read. Basically, it leaves one question unanswered - how does one start with the Hassassin Bahram set?

I love the minis, love the fluff behind them, but haven't really found any advice about how to start playing with them and whether its a bloody stupid idea to start with that set or not so any advice anyone can give would be great, even to the point of 'its a really bad idea, get the starter set instead' what do you all think?

It's been said often that a Hassassin Bahram force isn't the best to start with. It's a fairly advanced sectorial that, while it can work will, requires some finesse. Not to mention there's extra rules on top of a normal force with a sectorial (fireteams and now haris teams), rules added on top of an already very complex game.

However, that set is fairly flexible. You can actually use it as the basis of a normal Haqqislam force (albeit heavy on the Hassassins) or a Bahram. You'll want some more regular troops, so some more Daylami, Naffatun or Ghulam wouldn't go astray.

My recommendation would be, if it does include the models you want, go with the box, buy a few more regular infantry, and have fun with them as a regular Haqq force until you feel comfortable with the rules and want to put together a Bahram list.

Agreed, the Hassassin Bahram box is really more of an add on then a good starter, compared to most other boxes.

However, if you don't mind picking up a pair of additional blister packs and proxying one troop you can have a decent 150pt list. But as Loki mentioned, you will be diving into heavier rules right off the start.

1x Bahram box
1x Ghulam 3x Infantry with Rifles blister
1x Muttawiah blister
(Only thing for proxying would be the Daylami as a Ghulam)

HASSASSIN BAHRAM
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

GROUP 1 (Regs: 7/Irrs: 1):

GHULAM Lieutenant Rifle + Light Shotgun / Pistol, Knife (13)
Lieutenant

2x GHULAM Rifle + Light Shotgun / Pistol, Knife (13)

GHULAM Panzerfaust, Rifle + Light Shotgun / Pistol, Knife (16 | 0.5)

LASIQ Viral Sniper Rifle / Pistol, Knife (29 | 1.5)
CH: Mimetism, Climbing Plus, Religious Troop, X Visor

FIDAY Rifle + Light Shotgun, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, EXP CCW (34)
Martial Arts L3, Basic Impersonation, Religious Troop

MUYIB Rifle + Light Shotgun, Panzerfaust, D-Charges / Pistol, Knife (25 | 0.5)
Religious Troop, V: Dogged

MUTTAWI´AH Chain Rifle, E/Marat / Pistol, Knife (5)
V: Dogged, Religious Troop

148 Points | SWC: 2.5

ARMY CODE: Army Infinity v.3.0.

You can also change it up by using the Muyib as the Emauler version and replacing the Fiday with the Ragik, but this would also mean you're starting with 1 less order available on the table. Not a bad thing, but at least it allows you to change it up a little bit.

If you're starting with the Bahram box, then yes, the Ghulam rifles 3pack is probably the best companion purchase. As someone who tried starting out with Hassassin Bahram first, I'd recommend going for vanilla Haqqislam first (all contents of the HB starter are perfectly usable in vanilla Haqq), as you get more tools to play with, and a more balanced pool of units to build lists with. If you're diving headfirst into HB, then Valthonis' list is a great pointage to start out at.

For me, Daylami in the HB box rarely see use as-is, usually serve as proxies for me, as I don't like Daylami except for the Panzerfaust+Inferior Infiltration variant, aka suicide missile launcher. Infinity isn't as WYSIWYG as other games, so proxy and try out units that look interesting to see whether they'll fit your playstyle.

Great expansion points for an HB force include Hassassin Muyibs, who are awesome explosive toolkits with versatile loadouts and have an AVA of 6 in a Hassassin army, and Lasiq Viral Rifles for lethal shootouts. For higher pointages (250-300), you can also try out the Asawira, a relatively fast Heavy Infantry unit with Regeneration.

I would recommend you to purchase three blisters of Hassassin Lasiqs, get two of the Sniper and one of the guy with rifle. Why?
Because the fireteam made with these is superb.

two blisters of this miniature.

This blister also.

Also, the blister of the three basic Ghulams, this are the basic line troops. Essential.
Spoiler:

Also, the Hassassin Fiday. Classic. Always a terrible menace for your enemy.

Once you have these basics. Just add troops until you reach the number of points required.

If you love the minis and fluff then don't be discouraged to start with this. Several people gave very good advice. But to keep it simple Id proxy the Daylami as Ghulams.... they look like them anyway and I've never used my Daylamis as themselves always as Ghulams....plus you will need to put your initial Lt. somewhere.

Just make the list using the army builder and print out the rules that your units use like Impersonation of Fiday or the Combat drop of the Ragik...and your good to go. This will give you about a 144 pt list (daylamis as rifle ghulams). Don't worry on what to immediately buy along with the starter set...your game experience and preferred tactics will help you decide this as there are a number of ways to develop your force (death from above HMG ragik, more muyibs for explosive goodness against things that need exploding, more fidays for up close and personal assassinations, more Lasiqs for long range death, additional ghulams for orders or Lt. hiding, etc). You will easily know what you would need / want next after a couple of 150 games.

Go with what you would love and ENJOY!

A buddy of mine just gave me this set to get started with the game he is new to, and i wanted to know if anyone could help me by telling what paints i should get to paint these guys. I'm not looking for anything fancy, I just want to mimic what is on the box but again i don't know what paints I will need. Thanks

it's offtopic, but check out the guy that paints the miniatures:

Sometimes he says which colours he uses, he always mentions which paints he uses though. If anything is unclear just ask him, I got a quick reply on my question ^^

Haven't really got anything to add on topic, sorry :/
