Im new to the warhammer 40k universe, and ive read several codi, and watched many a battle report and was hooked from the start, gotta say the army that appealed to me most was the space wolves, the glory or death complex shown in their younger members felt familiar to me as did the companionship and honor shown in the older ranks of the space wolves, ive also been drawn to armies like the dark angels and the black templars, but those will have to wait for a much later date
any advice for a new player looking to build his first army would be greatly appreciated,
hope to be a good addition to the community here on dakkadakka some day

Welcome to DakkaDakka!
One of the best things a beginner can do is buy their Armies codex.
They explain most of the things you'd need to know.
Anything you still don't understand you can ask the other members here on Dakka about in in the respective sub-fourm.
The GW website is also kind of helpful.

Thanks everyone i already have the space wolves, dark angels, and black templar codex's and the 5th ed rule book so all thats left is to decide which army to build first
