I had some fun over the weekend putting this guy together. Mostly airbrush, drybrush and some weathering powders. Reds, metals and details by hand.

Thats really nice. Clean lines and nice details.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

I really like the weathering, subtle but not too subtle.
The part that lets it down is the canopy- painting them like that just makes it look like a cheap Fisher Price toy- though it's not the only one I've seen like it.

Love it!

Canopy ruins the final product though, I think. Is there a reason why you did it this way?

I agree with previous posts, really spoilt by the painted canopy.

First, thanks for all the constructive criticism.

Is it the style of the painted canopy or the fact that it is painted? Generally if it is for my armies, the stuff is painted for speed and to get to a table top.

Spending time to paint inside cockpits and drivers is just a waste (IMO) for table top models.

I have done it previously but just find it doesn't add much to the finished product. I really didn't think this was a huge distraction.

I've done a bigger blue... better?

And I have painted some but the Valk was a display model vs. a play with model.

Has to be said the canopy does let it down.

The rest of the paint job is great.

I don't really like painted canopies in general, to me it seems pointless doing a decent paint job and then short-cutting by painting the canopy...
it'd be a bit like restoring a dodge charger then putting a lawn mower engine under the bonnet.

First let me say your painting and weathering is absolutely great. I totally get the painted canopy look. but if its just tabletop, why not trying a black interior with a grey and white dry brush? not that time consuming imo.

I don't know if you did this on purpose, but the tail fin is on backwards. If you did it by accident, don't worry; I did the same thing and had to rip it off because it bothered me knowing it was backwards. I love the paint job but I also agree with the previous posters: the canopy throws the whole thing off. I found the cockpit to be realitivy fast to paint and it really makes the model look good. Plus you could have tinted it to hide some of the details if you chose to ignore them. Overall though, I like it!

I agree with the other posters, a very decent paint job let down by the canopy. The issue stems largely from the fact that it looks rushed and untidy.
One method I've seen used is to paint the interior a single colour so that the cockpit looks flooded with light from the displays. Simple and fast and would look tidier than the faux glass effect.

Great model, but like the others...I agree that the canopy ruins it...even for a table-top quality paint job. Perhaps it's just my roots in aircraft modeling, but to me it seems just plain lazy to paint over the canopy. It really only adds at most an extra hour to the entire paint job to paint the cockpit and pilot. Personally, I feel that if the modeling company went through the trouble to make a detailed cockpit, I should get my money's worth and paint it. I mean, at GW's prices, you're talking about over a buck's worth of plastic just wasted by obscuring it!

First, I want to thank everyone for their generous comments. I'm not sure that the model is ruined with the cockpit but certainly will consider that in the future.

Well, in all fairness that does add 25% more time to paint job.

I guess there are a lot of things I don't get my money's worth in this hobby. I've never painted the inside of a land raider or rhino.

Nice job.

I do see what others mentioned about the canopy letting it down, but on saying that the next valkyrie I paint will have a painted canopy to save time.
Have you thought about masking up the canopy (either with tape or paint-on masking fluid) and spraying it? It wouldn't take long at all and in my opinion would really make this a top level model, something like they do with model helicopters maybe, like this:

The painted canopy on the Stormraven looks good, I think the problem with the Stormtalon's is that the base colour of the 'glass' is too dark compared to the highlights. On the SR you've used a much lighter blue.

As for getting your money's worth... If no one's going to see most of the details it certainly does seem like a bit of a waste of time to paint them on a Tabletop model.
