I've just finished my bloodthirster for the 40k daemons army I am painting. I HATE the GW Bloodthirster so decided to use a Balrog as the base model instead, that way it's still playable at my local GW store.

This is my first attempt at source lighting, used for the mouth. I hope you like it.
I might go back & revisit the axe, what do you think?

All comments & criticism gratefully received

If you look carefully I've veined the wings

Thanks for looking!

This is SO much cooler than the GW models for either unit...I'm not sure about the weapon but everything else looks great

The painting is awesome. Simple yet very effective.
Don't like the huge axe though, but to each his own.

Est Fantastic, tré-tré shique, magnifque...

The OSL looks good, but what really shines (lol) for me is the brightness in the mouth, it is so palpable...

If my post show some BAD spelling issues, please forgive-me, english is not my natural language, and i never received formal education on it...
My take on Demiurgs (enjoy the reading):

This is Amazing! I really like the skin color and the osl from the mouth is so great you can feel the heat. Like other said I am not a big fan of the axe but it still looks fantastic.

I don't like the GW Bloodthirster either!
You've made a more than suitable replacement (way better that GW version).

I love the conversion and the paintjob is good too.

The OSL is Fantastic by the way.

Guilliman and the Ultramarines are like Manchester United, everyone hates them because they are so awesome!

That looks great!
A much better use for the model than what it was intended as!
The OSL is amazing!

But, like most, I don't like the axe- it seems to be a less than half hearted effort.

How did you get the yellow to be so bright in the mouth? I have been trying to get that glowing effect on my BT eyes, but the Citadel yellow just seems too thin with not enough pigment to get the job done. I tried many combos of different shades/colors, but nothing looks as good as what you have here.

Tips please?

Thanks for all the feedback :-)

I think I'm going to change the axe, I wasn't too sure about it to begin with. Time to raid the bitz box!

@ Razgryz: I used white -> sunburst yellow -> golden yellow -> blazing orange -> tamiya red X-7 -> mechrite red -> black.

There's probably about 15 layers of thin yellow on the lighted bits, it took a long time to build up the intense colour and It looks a little bit brighter on the pictures than in real life too.

Wow, great conversion and possibly the best, most effective stand-in for the BT I've ever seen. Not sold on the axe though, as others have said.

Very nice lighting around the mouth. I love the idea of an "inner light source", it gives a very demonic feeling to the model.

I think you could keep the axe, but paint it differently? Or change the axehead for a slightly smaller one

But overall is fantastic!

Faaaantastic.

I'd suggest adding texture or shadow to the belly and crotch; they look a bit flat. Although that could be attributed to the photo, not the actual model. If the mouth is a light source, then it seems logical that hunching over would leave the chest and crotch in shadow.

Amazing work in any case.
