**edited for photos**

I've had the table for a few years but never got around to painting it.
Over the last weekend I broke it out for a game and thought I would
whip some paint on it.

First is a naked shot:

My first step was to use Krylon Black on the cliffs, cracks and skull pits.

I then used Krylon Ruddy Brown over the whole surface, going a little light
on the black parts to keep the shading in. Also its worth it to mention I going
for a "surface of Mars" look.

To break up the single color I used Krylon Camo Tan in thin strips.

I also used a brighter red spray and gave it a dusting, but it did not show in the
picture.

Next up was a multistage approach. I used Woodland Scenic brick red and
coal black ballast. I mixed the two into a cardboard ice cream tub, poked some
holes on the top and taped it on. I used a spray gun to spray PVA glue over the
surface and sprinkled the mixture. I did two to three coats and then over sprayed
the whole thing with the glue again, when dry I used Krylon Matt Seal over the whole
thing. For a finishing touch I used GW Null Oil on the cracks, cliffs and pits, and then
drybrushed the skull pits. I plan on going back to add water effects on the skull pits.

The Null Oil was freshly added so it still looks wet, once dry I also used Matt Sealer on it.

To help the cliffs and such stand out I used light coats of the Camo tan an some Grey
spray paint I had laying around to give it light coats to bring it back to the surface.

Total work time, 2 days.

Looks very good!

What did you paint with the Null Oil? That part wasn't clear to me. Just the skulls?

I used the Null Oil on the cliffs, the cracks and the skull pits, you can see it better in the last pic in order to make them stand out a little more.

It looks wonderful! I might have to steal this idea for a table. I'm getting tired of rolling green plains.
