What size magnets do you guys recommend for magnetizing crisis suits and my second question is I'm also running blood angels and i was wondering what the best mags are for magnetizing jump packs and weapon choices for death company troops (basically assault marines)?

thanks to you my friend. but i can tell you 1/8 is WAY too big for infantry. that's what i use for vehicle turrets and sponsons. are you sure about that size?

There is a magnetizing guide for something like this in P&M tutorials, he uses these ones:

For weapons on tau suits, I use 1/8" diameter mags for the hand weapons, and rectangular magnets for broadsides on the shoulders (so they don't swivel).

I use 1/8" for magnitizing terminator arms as well.

The only other marine troops I mag are sgt arms and the ocassional jump pack - I use 1/8" for those as well.
Yes, its overkill, but consistency (in what I have to stock, drilling, etc.) is nice.

I will ocassionaly use a 1/16" diameter mag for something very light (oh, a tau target lock or drone controller) but most stuff is 1/8" for me.

Get some, try it, if you don't like it, try something else. Use test models.

I use 3x3x0.5mm square magnets for my battlesuits. You can surface mount them which helps a lot.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

i have some 1/8 by 1/16, and i'm sorry that is way overkill for infantry sized pieces. if it works for you great, but i'd like a less intrusive solution.

i keep seeing recommendations for 1/8 by 1/16 for XV8 weapons and i don't get it since i used those for my land raider redeemer's flamestorm cannon and they were plenty strong for that, seems like super overkill for a gram of plastic.

I got my magnets from http://www.neomagnete.com/ ages ago. I don't know how competitive they are, but they certainly stock anything you might ever want

Also you can just about see the arm mounts in the pic below. The magnets are usually hdden, but I was playing about a bit with a random amalgamation of weapon bits and came up with this:

Here is why I use the 1/8" and why it is not "overkill" for me.

I have used smaller magnets, and yes, they are indeed less intrusive. In fact, occasionally I will use 1/16" dia that are 1/8" deep....I want STRONG magnets.

Why?

I like to put my crisis weapons on when I pack my army so I don't have to do it at the store/event, etc. It takes more time to do it later.

Also, when playing, the weapons are more exposed than say...turrets or sponsons. They have a greater chance of getting bumped, knocked off, or turned even when just moving the model.

So, while yes, the 1/8" dia are bigger, and perhaps overkill for just holding the thing on...I like them because they hold the part on securely.

I like a good solid connection.

If that really is too big for your tastes, I would go with a smaller diameter, but a thicker magnet - for the extra power.
(these are great: http://www.kjmagnetics.com/proddetail.asp?prod=D12-N52).

For broadsies, hunterkiller missiles, Ironclad parts, or anywhere I need a surface mount, I love these;
http://www.kjmagnetics.com/proddetail.asp?prod=B4201

I am clumsy, I knock weapons off models with weak magnets...not everyone does.

Again, do some tests, see what works for you. I have magnetized a lot, and this is what works for me.
