stand up to Xenos such as Tyranids, Necrons or any variation of Eldar?
Does there affinity for prolonged siege warfare make them weak against there opponents or no?

They might struugle against eldar, especially dark eldar as they would be so fast. But necrons and nids would be simple as they usally just walk towards their enemy in a horde.

We got Dkok vs Crons in Dead man walking and the korps fought bravely where others would run.
They are surely stubborn enough to hold positions against hordes but maybe not mobile enough to catch fast opponents or evade the unstoppable. Plus they deem their death as a neccessary offer so...

Engaging the Death Korps in battles of attrition is an exercise in futility. They'd bury you beneath ordnance and bodies. High-mobility opponents like Eldar and Dark Eldar might have an advantage, but if they pin you down or dig-in, say goodbye.

I should have left him there. He had served his purpose. He owed me nothing - yet he gave himself to me willingly. Why? I know not. He is nothing more than a pathetic human. An inferior race. A mon-keigh. But still I broke off my wings so that I might carry him easier. I took him from that place, into the snowstorm where our tracks will not be found. He is heavy. And he is dying. And he is slowing me down. But I will save him. Why? I know not. He is still warm. I can feel his blood ebbing across me. For every beat of his heart, another, slight spill of heat. The heat blows away on the winter wind. His blood is still warm. But fading. And I have spilled scarlet myself. I'm pretty sure that even if they're up against Eldar or Dark Eldar, the Death Korps affinity for trenches and bunkers would slow them to a crawl. Then, BANG! There goes the artillery. Goodbye, pointy-eared limp-wrists.

I think Nids would overpower them, just sheer numbers and things like Genestealers breaking into their trenches and butchering them. Akin to the beginning cinematic for Starcraft Brood War.
Normal Eldar, sure? I'm certain they could hold them off. Dark Eldar would be interesting, considering the DKOK entrench themselves and the Dark Eldar hit and run. *Both armies are professional at what they do.* Same with Necrons.you don't get back up after a demolisher cannon flattens you.

There's still the nuclear option. Once the last Death Korps position is overrun, a series of thermonuclear charges buried at key points under the planet's crust detonates, breaking planet open, and making the 'nids waste all the resources expended on the Death Korps.

I used to think I should make Cadians if I ever went Imperial Guard. Now, after reading up on the Death Korps, I agree. The Death Korps is the way I'll go. Nothing like radiation, artillery, trenches, and staggering numbers to bring victory home.

This the Death Korps were talking about here. Death Korps of Krieg. They've even been granted access to cloning technology considered abhorrent by most of the Imperium. Why would nukes be any different? And nukes aren't rare in 40k - torpedoes are for all intents and purposes tactical-grade nukes.

I always assumed the Imperium would just bomb planets full of Tyranids rather then try to recover them. Save for Macragge, because it was a key planet and because Ultras wear plot armor.
Or at least, the fluff I read when I got into the game close to 5 years ago, was -full- of lore of the Imperials nuking things, and each other.

They did. Entire sectors were reduced to ashes by Lord Inquisitor Krypttman just to stop Leviathan's advance.

Behemoth was the first, stopped at great cost at Macragge.
Second, Kraken, devastated Iyanden before splintering.
Leviathan, slowed and redirected to Octarius by Lord Inquisitor Krypttman.

Torpedoes are either plasma or vortex, not nuke. It is hard to maintain nukes, so they are not as good an option when compared to plasma, vortex or life-eater.

And...?
The Death Korps of Krieg aren't any better equipped than any other of the important Guard regiments.
They've even been granted access to cloning technology considered abhorrent by most of the Imperium.
Speculation. We have no clue what the vitae-wombs are at this point.
Why would nukes be any different? And nukes aren't rare in 40k
False. No, really. This is just downright false.
Nuclear weapons are rare--and forbidden for the most part. Why?
Because even the cleanest nuclear detonation completely and utterly feths up the ecosystem and environment of where they are being detonated. With that in mind...
The scouring of worlds in the face of the Tyranid hive fleets was done with Vortex and Plasma warheads, not nuclear weapons. Nuclear weapons are unreliable and pitiful when compared to these weapons.
- torpedoes are for all intents and purposes tactical-grade nukes.
No, they're not. They're similar in the fact that they go boom--but otherwise they have nothing in common.

Compared to Melta, Plasma and other Tech.
Nuclear Bombs are easy to make and there is mention of them being used a plenty before hand, They are not used in 40k now (usually) due to the Radiation which is an... inconvianant problem. If it wasn't for the Radiation they would be used willy nilly instead of plasma and melta weapons.
But those as mad as the Death Korp, don't give 2 *bleep*'s and would rather hit the button while standing on the nuclear core surrounded by million of tyrinids, Orks, Eldar or whatever nasty the galaxy wants to see sent against the grinder known as the Death Korp.

My point exactly. They destroyed their own home world simply because they felt if the Emperor couldn't have it, then no one could. The Imperium trusts them sufficiently enough to allow them access to restricted technologies like the vitae womb, which may or may not be cloning vats, so why not nukes?

No, there isn't.
There is as far as I recall one mention of nuclear weapons.. In the third Gaunt's Ghosts novel, "Necropolis" the Shriven force a Hive City to detonate its reactors. Gaunt and the other officers are shocked, thinking that the Shriven had actually detonated a nuke first before they got reports confirming it was the reactors overloading.

Except they didn't destroy their own homeworld. They rendered it a nuclear wasteland.
If they destroyed their homeworld, there would be no more Krieg soldiers period.

Because the Imperium does not control nuclear weapons.
The Adeptus Mechanicus does, and the Adeptus Mechanicus have them effectively hidden away.

Necrons? Not so much anymore. They now have Deathmarks (assassins that can teleport), powerful flying vehicles, and are very capable tacticians. That's not to mention Destroyers, Heavy Destroyers, Flayed Ones (hard to be safe when the Flayed Ones just plop right inside next to you), plus Crypteks that can teleport whole units around all willy-nilly. Tyranids and Orks are the "overwhelm with numbers" armies. IG do that, but they also rely far more on vehicles than either Tyranids or Orks (usually).

My point exactly. They destroyed their own home world simply because they felt if the Emperor couldn't have it, then no one could.
Except they didn't destroy their own homeworld. They rendered it a nuclear wasteland.
If they destroyed their homeworld, there would be no more Krieg soldiers period.
Pretty much the same thing, as I see it.
Except it's not. It doesn't matter that you "see it" as that, but destroying a world has a specific connotation in a universe where factions actually can--and do--destroy entire worlds to the point of cracking them apart.
The Imperium trusts them sufficiently enough to allow them access to restricted technologies like the vitae womb, which may or may not be cloning vats, so why not nukes?
Because the Imperium does not control nuclear weapons.
The Adeptus Mechanicus does, and the Adeptus Mechanicus have them effectively hidden away.
Then where did they get the nukes to devastate Krieg in the first place?
If you want to have an informed debate on things; please make the effort to be informed.
Krieg used to be a very well-off world. They had strong ties to the Adeptus Mechanicus--enough so that the Adeptus Mechanicus actually had some hidden away in a facility on Krieg.
A Magos got permission to bring them out, and Jurten used them as the opening salvo in his strike.
