Subject: A return of Psykers in 6thEd? Your thoughts?
I just saw the 2nd teaser trailer for the next Edition of 40k. It has an image in it of a psyker, I'm not one to speculate as a rule but this has intrigued me. Matt Ward has largely written the latest WHFBBrB, which has returned it to being a magic heavy game. As he is a large part of the development team for 40k as well, is it possible he is pulling a similar move with 40k? Will we return to a psyker heavy battlefied? Is it just a suggestion of new psyker releases? Or are we facing an entirely new system of Psychic powers in this edition of 40k? What are your thoughts on this folks?

Well I honestly wouldn't look for to much significance behind it, it is just a teaser.
That could be the emperor possessing a body so he is no longer bound to the golden throne, I doubt it but since we will find out more in a couple weeks may as well swing for the fence.

Fleshing out pyskers is not the same as pysker dominated/Fantasy-esque pysker powers.
Not that that will stop anyone from claiming as such and flailing their arms around like a three year old who's just made his first bowel movement.

I think it may well be a fleshing out of Psykers, or a possible change in the plot as Knee suggested. We don't have long to find out, only 5 days, so this is as good a time as any to guess at what changes may have occured. I feel the video suggests there will be some kind of change for psykers, what that is I don't know...

Hopefully they will realise that WHFB + SoM generated so much magic rage that they might be sensible about it. I think eldar need to get a psychic buff, but they should be more or less as they are now.

Magic and Storm of magic in 8th are fine if you dont power game and accept that you are going to lose chunks of stuff, but for 40k a more skirmish type thing.. i dont want to be loseing chunks of stuff it just doesnt feel right, now for Apoc... well thats normal and i accept it.. so i suppose im saying i agree with some people on here and hope its not as nasty as 8th magic, but still nasty

Well if you look at Ahriman, Varro Tigurius, Eldrad (not sure how they'll get him back), and others... they could use something that puts them back on par with JotWW type powers. I would also love to see the 3 wound init 5 libbies of old comeback.

I'm sorry, but most of those people never played the true "Magic Heavy" armies of 7th, at least 8th is FAIR to who gets what, did people really enjoy the big four that could pump out 18+ magic dice in one phase? You want to see magic, see it rapid fired with impunity!
SoM went heavy on it, but that's kinda what the expansion was about, high magical periods generated by storms of magic.

I am really hopping they don't go to over the top with psychers, I would hate to see Canoptek spyders become mandatory in every Necron list(there are some cool heavy support option that would become worthless).
Or hopefully they give armies who don't have psychers something to help defend against them better.

I'm not overly worried about it as for the most part most armies are going to be limited to 1 - 2 psychers as they typically are HQ choices.
We might see more units like the IG psycher battle squad where the unit has some psychic powers, but don't have any real guns. Its just trading one shooting attack for a different shooting attack.
Also psychers had better not become mandatory as some armies would be totally boned such as Tau, Orks, and DE. Sadly I collect all three.
Also not to pick on Lobukia but you said it first, I'd love to see more powers just like JOTWW. It would be awesome if my Eldar opponent had powers that didn't do anything against certain builds instead of just dooming any unit on the field into oblivion.
See pics of my Orks, Tau, Emperor's Children, Necrons, Space Wolves, and Dark Eldar here:

No game of chess can be won without pawns, and this may prove to be a very long game.
I love how people think GW would actually nerf a majority of armies who have no pyskers, and/or completely change the look and feel of every army to make them far more prevailent.
Seriously guys, really? You may as well say "Well AV14 have hull points now so if I don't have AV14 I may as well stop playing wah wah"

Four armies have no psykers: Tau, Dark Eldar, Sisters of Battle and Necrons. The vast majority of armies do.

You forgot Black Templars.
And then there are those armies which, while they have psykers, have no defence against opposing ones (you know, apart from putting a bullet in their brain pan. Squish), like orks and guard....any others?
But this is all just speculation, we have no knowledge of what'll happen until the 23rd or whenever.

Even as a Black Templar player I can only welcome, that Psykers get a little more depth in 6th. However its hardlys a return after that the 5th saw the Psykers the mosat important HQ option of many armies (most if you just count the number of played armies).

CSM don't have any psychic defense either, interestingly enough.

Daemons don't have psykers specifically and, for the damned all dumbest reason, have no psykic defense. Hey, they are just physical manifestations of warp beings made whole in this dimensions and are ageless.
But no, a little mortal with bit of hand waving rocks their world. Awesome.

I'm hoping that by beefing up Psykers and adding fliers it puts a couple of new interesting dimensions on the game. Annd if we get psyker cards to satisfy my magpie-like urges to collect stuff, all the better.
It would seem silly if this is going to ostracise the non-psyker armies but I imagine it wouldn't be hard to hand-wave some psykers into their fluff. Luckily my current two HQ's are a Daemon Prince and a Sorcerer and I'm just starting an Eldar army .
