I got a friend hooked with Warmachine again and at this point he bought pretty much every Seaforge model available. While reading the rules for the Ghordson Basher I noticed something I wanted to make clear.
His special rules allow him to make a slam attack without spending focus, but does that mean he can slam while being controlled by a 'Jack Marshal? Battle College seems to think so. Your thoughts?

Yes, it can do it while Jack Marshaled, it's part of what makes it a good option for Thor. If you're looking for a reasoning as to why: Because the card says it can.

The Basher Marshalled to Thor is the best marshall/jack combo in the game, followed by Sential UA+Daemon and Journayman Warscaster with a Hunter (though this is technically not a jack marshall functiionally it is).
Also Battlecollege is not the place to go for rules beyond "which rule does it have".

I was wondering because the marshall-rules say nothing about power attacks. Does that mean it would work with other marshals too. The gun corps seargent is one, right?

The marshall rules say nothing about power attacks because the power attack section says that a warjack must spend a point of focus to do a power attack. Marshall's can't give focus so most marshalled jacks can't do all those fancy moves. But yea, if the basher is marshalled by other marshalls then it can still make slam power attacks. However, part of the reason Thor is put with the basher is the Pronto drive that extends the bashers threat range to massive levels. Oh, and what some factions can do with marshalled jacks is use power booster to give out a point of focus. At that point the jack can spend the focus as normal and potentially do a power attack.

Really? I don't think I ever noticed that rule. Can you give me some examples?
And thanks for the quick answers, guys,

Power booster is on the Warwitch Siren (Cryx), Arcanist (Retribution), Koldun Lord(?) (Khador), and Character mechanic (Cygnar)

You can also get focus from things that draw focus from nearby units like the Stormclad -> Stormblades , Gallant -> Precursors, and the Desecrator -> Banes.

Oh, yes. Forgot about Accumulator. But gallant can get the focus point from any Morrowian model.

Yep, which is why you tend to see Harlan Versh escorting Gallant.

Side note: Your friend picked one of the most restrictive armies to play, I love and play searforge.
The Thor+ Basher combo is one of the best for a jack marshall. Basically thor "tunes" damage rolls, and you let the Basher go all basher declaring a slam for free without focus, addl dice on slam roll. Then flak field for addl dice on flack field. Its quite the quick, quirky, and nasty jack vs single wound infantry.
Another good target for Thor is the Avalancher, who is pricey. You jackmarshall the attack roll and tune the damage roll, plus you can drive it. Gives you quick the nasty threat range.
Tell your friend to consider picking up Brun & Lug.. the little Dwarf and the Bear. As the point value creeps its important to have Thor Jackmarshalling, and important to consider Brun / Lug with a Bokur. You almost create 2 sub battlegroups, leaving Gorton or Durgan to have more focus. Searforge is fun, resilent, and can be nasty in the right hands. But their limited choice selection is great for collecting, but hard on list versatility.
