I'm a little confused about dangerous terrain tests... Do you only test for them in the Movement phase, or every single time the unit moves, including the Movement phase, running and assaulting (unless explicitly stated otherwise, eg disembarking)? It seems like a pretty basic question to me, but I can't seem to come to a conclusive answer.

Every time you move in the terrain.

So when you move into it. When you run. When you assault through it. When you move through it and when you move out of it.

Change and change until Change is our master, for nothing neither God nor mortal can hold that which has no form. Change is the constant that cannot be changed.

What about jump infantry, do you test twice if you jump out of terrain and then land in it too?

I do it for every test. If after the movement phase dangerous terrain tests didn't get the unit out of danger, than they are still in danger and further movement could get them killed/hurt.

Yes, jump infantry who jumps into and out of ANY terrain counts it as dangerous. Mind you this is not the same as walking into it, which you can have jump infantry do to avoid this.

Well the Dangerous terrain on P.14 states that a unit takes a dangerous terrain test "during its move".

So the question is when is "its move"?

A units move is in the movement phase.

Running specifically states that you must take dangerous terrain tests though, so you still have to take Dangerous Terrain tests when running through dangerous terrain.

Also since assaulting specifically states they use the same rules as in the movement phase they need to take them there as well.

You test once per phase. If you move out of and then into dangerous terrain during the movement phase, it is one test. If you move in it again (into, through, or out of) during the shotting phase (run), then you test for that phase. And if you move in, out or through while assauling, you make a test during the assault phase.

Page 14, main rules, BTW........................ Page 16 covers Run, and page 36 for Assault.

Thanks for the clarification. I've been tempted to ask this question myself, what with one of my armies being Tremorcrons.

Yeah my opponent tends to run jumping BA, so I counter with Murderous Hurricane/Tempest's Wrath/hiding around cover, so it's good to know.

One test per phase, if assault marines jump from terrain to terrain, they only roll once.

I believe you can have multiple tests in the same phase.

Example:

A unit charges an enemy unit through dangerous terrain. They have to take a dangerous terrain check. The unit looses the assault and flees back through the dangerous terrain. This requires another test.

Or a unit tank shocked multiple times through dangerous terrain - each fall back is a separate move.
