Subject: 1k pt Necron tournament list - first tournament

Interested in thoughts on a Necron list for an upcoming 1k point tournament. This is the first tournament I've ever competed in.
List 1: 1000 points precisely
HQ:
2x Overlord, war scythe, mindshackle scarabs and barge.
Royal court(s):
3x Destroteks, 2x solar pulse
Troops:
3x 5 Warriors (each with 1 destrotek)
Heavy Support:
3x Annihilation Barge
List 2: 995 points
HQ:
1x Overlord, war scythe and barge.
Imotekh
Royal court(s):
2x Destroteks, 2x solar pulse
1x Eternitytek, Chronometron
Troops:
2x 5 Immortals (1 with destrotek; 1 with destrotek, Immotekh and Eternitytek)
Heavy Support:
3x Annihilation Barge
Specific questions:
1. Are 3 small troop choices too vulnerable? Are 2 troop choices too few? Do they need transports (making the list even more AVxx heavy)?
2. Are too many points sunk in the HQs? Could the points be better spent on Ghost Arks/Night Scythes or perhaps wraiths?
3. Is Imotekh worth it in a small game? Are there too few target for Imotekh's storms to be worth it?

I reckon you could take either list - I like them both. One thing though, in list 2, drop a pulse and take MSS on the Overlord instead. having 1 pulse is probably good insurance in case night fight disappears early.
Take Gauss Cannons on the Anni Barges for the AP3, combined with Tesla Destructors they make the barges a bit better at killing standard marines.
Re your questions :
a) 3 small troop choices including the crypteks are not too vulnerable imho. Because the Crypteks are ever living, you have a 1/3 chance that it will stand back up even if the entire squad is destroyed (just remember to kill the Cryptek first if you are likely to lose CC).
The key is target priority. If the opponent chases the troops, you will be all over them with 5 barges, so I think it is a safe bet that heavy firepower will be focussed on the barges. Just keep the troops back for the first couple of turns while you deal with the heavy stuff.
In your first list, you can put 2 destroteks with 1 squad and reserve a warrior squad as insurance.
2) Depends on what you think. In both lists you have some heavy firepower in the barges, but not so much once the overlords are out of the barges - no Weave/PS (although list 1 is better because of the MSS).
Wraiths will give you powerhouse CC as long as you get 5. I personally wouldn't change a SurfLord for 3 wraiths.
3) Your call. I prefer your first list, because you get more attack power from the extra CCB/Olord and still have 2 turns of night fight if you need it. In your second list, if you take out Imotekh plus the ChronoTek, you can get a squad of 5 wraiths with a couple of whip coils. That would be good. Any spare points you can use to beef up the overlord.

Take list 1 unless you roll a lot of 6s shooting. Imotekh relies way to much on luck to pay back his points. I would drop the second Ccb for some coil wraiths. 1 pulse should be more than enough and you need a unit to counter fast hitting armies.

I moved so starting from scratch. These were the armies I had, rebuilding my Chaos. |

List 1 is better I think. I LOVE Imotekh, but his points are a bit heavy for an 1000 point list. Only other thing I can think of maybe is take a Veil of Darkness Cryptek instead one of those Destros. That would give a squad of warriors alot of flexibility that you may need for last minute objective capturing.

Thanks for the input, I think I'll go with the first list.
@MarkCron: I think the suggestion about reserving one squad of Warriors is excellent! I'll run with that. Two Destroteks in one of the starter squads.
@TheCrazyCryptek: I'd love to have a VeilTek, and I've experimented with one in troops (Tesla Immortals) before with some success. However, they're pricey. To get one in the first list I'd have to axe a Destrotek and a Pulse, and then find another 5 points. While I'd be willing to swap one Destro for a Veil, I feel I need two pulses.

The list performed well and to expectations, given my lack of experience. I played 3 games: lost to Grey Knights; drew with Space Marines; beat Blood Angels.
I really had trouble with the Grey Knights, playing Annihilation. The Paladins just did not die. I popped some transports with the Overlords, but the jokaero's killed them soon enough (I didn't realise how many shots they could put out).
It wasn't that they didn't die... it was just that it took so much to make them die. And that much effort, to get so few kill points, led to my inevitable doom.
