Hey guys,
With the new Sedition Wars Kickstarter just coming to an end, it got me thinking that the models would have some great uses outside of the board game they are intended for and onto the hallowed tables of Corvus Belli's game. There are some beautiful sculpts in the game, and I think they would probably work well alongside Infinity stuff.
Here is a link to the Sedition Wars kickstarter for anyone who has not heard of it before: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/coolminiornot/sedition-wars-battle-for-alabaster
So, I thought it would be fun to have a bit of a brainstorming session and come up with some ideas!
Here are a few to get started:
- Of course, you could sub in the Vanguard (humans) for PanO perhaps, and some of the strain models for Combined Army, but why not a new faction? The Vanguard could work well as some kind of security force in scenario games, or even the 0-12 for instance.
- The Strain for Zombie-type scenarios. Yes, the WFB zombies are OK, but their design aesthetic doesn't mix well alongside the future hi-tech style of infinity. There are some great zombie-plague and other scenarios out there, why not sub in the Strain models (with their 'nano-virus') as a far more fitting miniature line for this?
- The number of non-combatant miniatures (engineers, drones etc.) that would be perfect again for scenarios.
- Terrain, this could work both ways; Sedition Wars is releasing a very cheap plastic terrain pack alongside the game, which would be perfect for helping to build up anyone's terrain collection. And why not use the game boards for an Infinity game inside a heavily armed facility or a space station? It would be awesome to have a game that took place above ground, and then a second part of the mission where the fighting goes inside, things like that?
To be honest I am as excited about Sedition Wars for its use in Infinity, as I am about the actual board game itself! It looks like a wonderfully designed miniature line in any case, and with Mike McVey's design talents I think that perhaps these miniatures are one of the only ranges that can stand alongside the quality of Infinity's sculpts. It's just a shame now that we have to wait so long for it, although the official Infinity Scenario book coming in the meantime should give us plenty of ideas to use these models!

I agree with pretty much everything =)
The only reason why I bought the terrain is because I thought I would fit well =)
The tiles might work for indoor games, will have to see in time =P
Also, someone on the Infinity forum proposed using the Opticamo troopers as Camo token and I find this idea really good =)

Utilizing Careful Highlighting

Oh wow, looking forward to this. I'm excited about the terrain and the clear pieces mostly (I can use them to represent camo troops! How cool can that be?!). I think the miniatures can also be used using Infinity rules then write your own fluff and make them a counts-as army, just like in 40k. Maybe use PanO rules for them but fluff it up as a mercenary group, or maybe a PanO sectorial you just made up. The "zombies" are not to my tastes since I prefer my monster models to be both useful in both Fantasy and scifi settings since I also use my miniatures for DnD campaigns. They're nicely sculpted though, and I can see them being used to represent more evolved undead: mix them with Mantic zombies who will represent the more generic undead and the Sedition Wars zombies will represent the more Resident Evil boss battle-y zombies.

Speculo Killers have nice stats but boring models, so I've been looking for alternatives. That Scythe Witch looks perfect. Maybe a bit too big, though...

Same here. The Vanguard would make great Mercs, security, or O-12.

Von Skyfury, I think they should be pretty much spot on in terms of scale. Perhaps slightly different style (I think it is the guy from Hasslefree who has done most of these), but I'm already thinking about what kind of colours the O-12 guys would use?

Yes I agree completely. I've been thinking about getting one of those cheap Mantic zombie-horde boxes, and just have a scenario with a mental amount of zombies (like 40-50) on table at once, and how much fun that would be (rules for running out of ammo, things like that). But, I think it would be a bit of an indulgence

Yes that does look awesome! I might get one though and just use it as terrain, some kind of power-loader just sat around during a battle.
My other thought now is about the new Metro model - and how those guys now look almost like some kind of underground/resistance fighting group. How cool would it be to have some kind of scenario with them fighting against the Strain (who have taken over the city/planet), trying to get vital supplies or maybe plant a bomb in the creatures hive or some such like?
You could even have them fighting against the 'O-12' in the form of the Vanguard models.

I didn't pledge that much myself, silly!
Still, $225 (shipping included) for the complete game (50 minis) and about 100 bonus and Kickstart-only minis isn't too shabby.

$ 225 for 150 minis is quite reasonable, IMO. I consider the game a bonus.

Massive collection of minis, amazing sculpting on them, with a great price and use for multiple game systems outside of its intended use (with perhaps a Sedition Wars tabletop game on the way also?) I think it was probably one of the best deals I have ever seen.

I don't yet play Infinity so this would be an cheap way for me to get into what looks like an amazing game!

Well, you can always proxy with the free download rules until you can get infinity minis.
One of the infinity players I know got his mate to add a "lights out" set to their KS pledge just so he could get some clear figures.
He's using them for TO, camo and Mine markers.

Thanks mate. I'm pretty gutted I didn't pledge for these now.

Ah great stuff I had forgotten about this thread!
Have received all of my Sedition Wars stuff and am now painting up a bunch of strain revenant (the basic zombie-type) miniatures. Definitely think there is a room for some kind of zombie campaign. I'm thinking of using the forest table I'm building at the moment - the first missions seeing two rival teams battling for forbidden research data inside a science station in that forest, then eventually the zombie outbreak occuring and spreading to the cities (so I can use a city-type board) - with one team trying to evacuate civilians and governmental staff while the zombies spread - of course there is another team there trying to do the same thing!
Think there is definite potential there, and like I've said before I think the Strain miniatures are by far the most appropriate and best fitting sci-fi zombie miniatures I have seen. Scale really nicely with the Infinity stuff also.
