Uruguay has decided that if it cant beat 'em join 'em, or more accurately force them to join you. Them being the local cannabis industry. Under new plans drugs production and distribution has now joined the list of industries to be placed under government control through a formal program of nationalisation.
Frankly it looks like a bold move, and one to watch. it will be very interesting if th Uruguayan government can pull it off.

I've been advocating the US doing this for years(and I don't even use the stuff), even if only to tax the hell out of it.

I can see joe blow having problems with the tax authorities.
Without a 'market' to protect it narcotics loses its power. its reduced to something like cheating benefits or something, and people will no longer be afraid to point fingers.

There are still plenty of countries where pot is black market.
It will move violence out of Uruguay though.

Its not like anyone can walk into a clinic to buy. I do believe there be a register...legal user..something or other allowing an individual to buy their dose.

I may be reading this wrong, but I was saying it should be legal for everyone, not just medicinal. That would solve the problem you mentioned earlier.

That's what I was saying, too.

Take a trip to Boulder, CO. We have doctors advertising scripts for MMJ. I believe we have 110 MMJ clinics in our town of 23 square miles. It's treated pretty much like smoking cigarettes here.

You and me both man. All I see is the potential for a cash cow for the states, because once legal, cmon. Itll have more smokers then big tobacco hands down, and they companies are rolling in some serious money. Soooooo get the gov behind it, and yea, tax the balls out of it

I think its about time more countries began legalising a lot of drugs, after all the two most damaging drugs in the world are legal in the form of tobacco and alcohol. I'd rather not have it legalized, except for medicinal use. I've had two of my friends grow distant and lose all motivation in school because of weed (a few other factors as well, but weed was a big part of it), and I frankly don't see how legalizing it could be a good thing, aside from the economic benefits.
But then again I'm a bit radical as far as the anti-drug thing goes. I don't even want to go to some music festivals because of the pot-smoke in the air. Something about drugs like that just seem a bit un-natural to me. (Not in terms of wether it is of organic origin, I mean our bodies didn't evolve to smoke weed and do other drugs.)
