I am wondering how many points tournaments will allow you to go over the limit. I am not saying way over, but just a slight bit.
Example: 1750 point tourny. Your army list is 1755.
I am wondering if your army would still be aloud in the tourny with those extra 5 points.

Answers needed please! Making an army list and I keep either being 1 or 5 points over. Need help! Please leave a comment below. Thanks

Generally you have to be NO MORE than X points. NOT A SINGLE POINT.
You are allowed to be under (different games and tourney systems will have a limit on this - Warmachine tends towards a no more than 10% under here and NO POINTS over).

That said, several tourneys have been mocked because entrants have been over in points (some by more than a single point) and won, and it was not caught by the TOs until after the awards were given out.

If a tournament has a points 'limit' it's a limit. Not a suggestion.

I have never been to a 40k tournament or run one that would even consider letting someone have an army list that was over the points limit at all.

Zero. Tournaments normally put a hard limit. Being even a single point over is usually grounds for disqualification.

This. Hell, last tournament I played in I was 24 points under just because I was out of useful options to take that would also have kept me under in points. If I were a TO handling the situation, depending on many factors, I may still let the guy play but his record wouldn't count.

Out of curiosity, were you playing Grey Knights? I seem to run into this problem with them a lot if I don't bring Coteaz/Henchmen.

Hell no! I was playing SoB.

Nope, hard cap always. And that 1-5 points may actually be VERY important. For example, I play BA and we don't get searchlights for free. If I have a 1750 list and add in a searchlight to make it 1751. I'm very doubtful anyone would let me have that searchlight. Hell, I'd never give myself that searchlight.

And as chromedog has said, some tourneys don't even require you to turn in lists. What's stopping you from being over a few-100 pts if no one will ask bout it?

Most I've been in, being over points was a disqualification offence.
