I noticed this morning that the batleforces have gone up in price and im not sure they are even worth it.
What are your thoughts on this matter

Lucky that i already bought the tau battleforce.

Happens every year at the same time or roughly around it.

Depends on the battle force itself as well to see if it was ever worth it, just look at the contents and compare to the price of buying everything separate.

Games Workshop does it every year. It depresses me that they keep on doing it, but you can not do much about it. I usually my models/battleforces from sites such as amazon or ebay if possible.

I dont see why they have put the prices u. Because im just starting was going to get a battleforce but i should just buy thing separetly now

I think the only reason they've put the Battleforces up is because everything else has gone up (ie the individual units inside) so I reckon you'll still make a saving from the Battleforce.

I recommend buying one from Amazon or Mantic or something: 20-25% off really makes a great difference when the item in question is £60-80

The most valuable advice for someone just starting:

Do not ever buy anything from Games Workshop. Buy from 3rd party dealers instead. Try Dark Sphere, they are one of best UK retailers for GW products and at a substantial discount with excellent service to boot.

I'd recommend eBay. You'll find things at market value not marked up value.

The only thing in the SM one that went up is the Rhino. It went up £2. And the battleforce went up 20 to become more expensive than a Baneblade. Almost as expensive as 2 Land Raiders.

Like everyone else said, buy online, and it might be the case that the battleforce costs more than the individual units. Go for the cheapest option.

If you buy from online, don't talk about it in your local store, especially if it's a GW. They won't appreciate it.

I used to find Battleforces online for 52 euros not even a year ago. Then it was 60. Then 68. Some went up to 80 a while ago. Finally, the Space Marine Battleforce is now 100 euros, while other kits have become stupidly expensive and suffered increases "just because". I still have about two years worth of models to paint, and I refuse to drop 100 unless it was a megaforce or brigade.

GW's increased pricing is like a game; I think they're trying to find out who are their most hardcore fans, who in the end will be taken to Nottingham to forever rest in the Halls of GW.

The battleforces are rubbish anyway, they just give you the crap you don't want/need.
Sentinals for IG, assault marines for vanilla SM. I'm sure there are more.

Possessed for Chaos marines, Guardians in Eldar. And then there are the armies that don't even get the option of a battleforce...

I can't really see the discussion here. "One particular kind of item went up in price, like it does every year" is hardly a compelling conversation starter. All I can say is "welp, saw that coming" and move on. If I want to buy a battleforce in the future, I will.

I would debate you on the Possessed. Sure they are awful on the table top, but their SPRUE is amazing. It lets you build a Winged Lord or Sorcerer, as well as containing a whole slew of cool weapons and bits that are great for really making your Lords, Sorcerers and Aspiring Champions unique and cool. Definitely worth it.

As for Guardians... who knows, the next codex might reduce the required number to 5, at which point they'll be strictly speaking better than DAVU, because these days people only take avengers to make vehicles scoring. The the Eldar Codex so soon around the corner its hard to say whether Guardians will be good or bad.

I highly doubt that DAVU or GVU will be viable next edition unless Eldar get a wargear which protects against hull point loss. I do expect (probably in vain) Guardians to be either be boosted or to have their weapons boosted.
That said, I've purchased a total of 4 boxes worth of Guardians for the purpose of making Corsairs.

But yes, a battleforce is generally speaking not a good thing. (Or is that specifically speaking with regards to standardised lists?)

As others have said, the battleforces usually contain the crap thaat you don't want/need and aren't really at enough of a discount to justify the purchase...there are a number of ebay sellers who post regular BIN auctions of armies that are at a 20 or even 30% discount and some even let you customize exactly what comes in your bundle...stay away from the GW website whenever possible
