I'am tempted to get into fantasy but don't wanna spend a whole lot of money and neither would my mates if we all opt to get into it. One is thinking of doing Vampire Counts and I really like the idea of a khornate warriors army. If 2000pts is the average fantasy army what could I put together that would be pretty decent in a fight but not destroy my wallet?

If you want something with some fight in it get 3 units of warriors halberds on all of em.

A Bsb on foot that can be made from warrior bits.

lord or sorcerer on foot also can be made from warrior bits.

some hounds because those are awesome.

um that's what comes to mind. i would suggest a horde of marauders because they do well but buying 40+ gets costly in cash and dosnt fill many points.

I played a WoC guy in a 2000pt Battle and he used 2 blocks of 30 Warriors, two Sorcerers and a Hellcannon. That, at face value, from buying the set individually from GW is about £150 quid. That's cheap for a 2000pts army, and that's not counting any discounts from buying elsewhere etc.

You could probably go cheaper, by not using the Hellcannon. But you want to use the Hellcannon. It's awesome.

2 boxes of warriors, using a model in each for either your lord or bsb leaves you with two 15 man khorne units and whatever weapons you give them with standard coming in at around 300 points each. Your bsb and khorne lord would wrack up about 500 points, thats 1100 so far then you have 900 points to spend what you want. More than half way there and it only cost you €62 or whatever the equivalent is in pounds. Get a few skulls from the box and use them as unit fillers to make units 20 man and then they have a bit more survivability

Also you could pimp out some ironguts for use as chaos ogres w/chaos armor

Army box isn't too bad but marauders kinda need to be horded with the way it is these days.

Two block of warriors, 30 man in each. Give one sword & board and MoT, the other you give Haleberds and MoK. a Extaled hero you can make from one of the warriors, then get some ogers and make Chaos ogres. Add Sorcerer for flavour

Warriors only have 12 per box.

If you want to go all khorne that may limit you a bit as far as sinking points, but:

3 boxes of warriors gives you 36 guys.
This is enough for:
2 chaos lords marked w/ little gear - 500 pts.
3 pimped exalted heroes 1 of which is your bsb - 500 pts.
3 units of 10 warriors halberd shield MoK full command and a couple magic banners: 700
1700

Buy a box of knights for the remaining 300 points.

So £60 could get a playable army? Whistles. That is mighty tempting; I had no idea you could get so many heroes. I might see if I can get my mates to split on a 8th ed rulebook. Also, if things pan out for WoC being released later this year then I'll fork out for the army book.

ps How many points is Valkia?

Valkia is 4 something. 425 maybe? I dunno. That's definitely a separate purchase though (can't make her out of a bulky warrior sprue). Make sure you buy the small rulebook from island of blood on e-bay or something. It has all of the important rules stuff. Unless you're really big on story and such in which case the big rule book is definitely worth it.
