Somewhere dark, cold and scary (A.K.A my mind)

Don't you just love orks. But what do you actually like about them, is it there war like nature, there love of big Guns or simply there addiction to speed?

May your rolls be high and your victories countless

I love that, in an era of fanaticism, bitterness and despair, Orks are the ones having the most fun.

Orks are by far the most flexible race, in terms of feeling and presentation - they can be made to appear violent and menacing or turned into ridiculous caricatures. This applies to the fluff as much as it does to painting and modeling opportunities.

Their gameplay is equally flexible, with the ability to load up on SAG meks, weirdboys, zzap guns, and ramshackle trukks, letting the dice decide whether you steamroll the opposition or explode spectacularly, without doing a lick of damage. One can just as easily employ "gamier" tactics, running diversified Nobs, alpha-striking koptas, and the like. Or load up on cheap boys, letting your numbers and the law of averages overwhelm your opponent. Orks can be a flood, a sledgehammer, or a time bomb with a random fuse and no visible countdown.

A lot of folks take advantage of their ramshackle construction techniques and propensity for looting to save money and flex their converting muscles when outfitting their army with vehicles. No other army gives modelers as free a license to scratchbuild and convert as Orks.

I think one of the biggest factors, though, is how well the Ork philosophy resonates with a lot of gamers. Sure, some of us are hyper-competitive, number crunching, WAAC players, but just as many (if not more) want nothing more than to see the look on an opponent's face when his prized army goes boom, crunch, squish, and/or fwoosh.

Ridiculous stories, "because I can" conversions, convoluted or tangential justification for why X is Y... anything laughably over the top lends itself better to Orks than to other armies. Younger gamers, especially (if Dakka is any indication), but also any that take the grimdark setting less seriously are given full license run wild with Orks. It takes a lot of the pressure of working within an established framework off of the player/collector/fluff-writer/P&Mer when the style of change or addition is just as open as the details.

As for me, I just think they're cool.

Everything. If Space Marines get ruined by Ward, I'm going Orks. They can't be possessed, they can't get influenced by C'tan, they're the only ones with a chance against the 'nids, and they're the only ones that makes the Necrons gak their pants. Not to mention they're practically immortal, and have a guarantee to survive no matter what. Best of all, they are AWESOME. When things get worse for others, they just roar WAAAGH! and charge in. And even then, they enjoy life to the fullest, laughing and whooping with joy as they chop their enemy to pieces (or get chopped up themselves).

I should have left him there. He had served his purpose. He owed me nothing - yet he gave himself to me willingly. Why? I know not. He is nothing more than a pathetic human. An inferior race. A mon-keigh. But still I broke off my wings so that I might carry him easier. I took him from that place, into the snowstorm where our tracks will not be found. He is heavy. And he is dying. And he is slowing me down. But I will save him. Why? I know not. He is still warm. I can feel his blood ebbing across me. For every beat of his heart, another, slight spill of heat. The heat blows away on the winter wind. His blood is still warm. But fading. And I have spilled scarlet myself. The snow laps greedily at our footsteps and our lifeblood, covering them without a trace as we fade away.

I like that they're still untainted. Every faction but Dark Eldar has gradually been fethed over by GW (either through bad fluff or rules) in recent years but Orks not only have their original flavor, but also have been made a tad darker which is an improvement imo.

Orks are flexible and fun to play on the tabletop, and have hilarious fluff as well. They're a stark contrast to the grimdark seriousness of the Space Marines, and refuse to take themselves and the game seriously. They're the only reason I continue to play WH40K.

I love my orks for a multitude of reasons. Here's 10!

10-Awesome models! All the new ork models are great kits, with a gak load of bits and beautiful sculpts.
9-Conversion opportunity. No army has nearly as much opportunity for conversion as the orks.
8-Simple works as well as complex. This applies to both painting and tactics. A rough paint job looks fine on an ork, and throwing 100 boyz at your opponent works fine too.
7-Alliegance. The orks do what they want, not being controlled by chaos or the imperium. That said...
6-Best gods in the game! Gork and Mork would feed Korne to his juggernauts if they felt like it. They don't and are happy just doing whatever they want to.
5-Randomness=forgiving. I am by no means a great player, on most days you can't see 'good' from where I am. The random factor of the orks can really help to provide a margin of error.
4-Old book that holds its own.
3-Walk into a game store and yell 'WAAAGH!'. See what happens. Try next week with 'For the Emperor' and compare.
2-Do what you want. I want to open a hole in time and space just so I can throw a tiny goblin at you.
1-Fun! They are the only faction actually enjoying the endless grim dark of the period and are a hell of a lot of fun on the table top, too!

This is prob one of my Fav quotes in the game.

"The Orks are the pinnacle of creation. For them, the great struggle is won. They have evolved a society which knows no stress or angst. Who are we to judge them? We Eldar who have failed, or the Humans, on the road to ruin in their turn? And why? Because we sought answers to questions that an Ork wouldn't even bother to ask! We see a culture that is strong and despise it as crude. "

I'm da hand of Gork and Mork, dey sent me to rouse up da boyz to crush and kill ‘cos da boyz forgot what dere ‘ere for. I woz one of da boyz till da godz smashed me in da ‘ead an’ I ‘membered dat Orks is meant to conquer and make slaves of everyfing they don’t kill.

I’m da profit of da Waaagh an’ whole worlds burn in my boot prints. On Armour-Geddem, I led da boyz through da fire deserts and smashed da humies’ metal cities to scrap. I fought Yarik, old one-eye at Tarturus, an’ he fought good but we smashed iz city too.

I’m death to anyfing dat walks or crawls, where I go nothin’ stands in my way. We crushed da stunties on Golgotha, an’ we caught old one-eye when da speed freeks blew da humies’ big tanks ta bits. I let ‘im go ‘cause good enemies iz ‘ard to find, an Orks need enemies ta fight like they need meat ta eat an’ grog ta drink.

I iz more cunnin’ than a grot an’ more killy than a dread, da boyz dat follow me can’t be beat. On Pissenah we jumped da marine-boyz an’ our bosspoles was covered in da helmets we took from da dead ‘uns. We burned dere port an’ killed dere bosses an’ left nothin’ but ruins behind. I’m Warlord Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka an’ I speak wiv da word of da gods. We iz gonna stomp da ‘ooniverse flat an’ kill anyfing that fights back. We iz gonna do this coz’ we’re Orks an’ we was made ta fight an’ win!

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

Jidmah~ Awesome quote.

I love orks. I think we as Ork players, are amongst the most blessed "hobbiest" out there. I believe if your not building, converting like a mad mek, and painting your ork force to some degree, your probably doing it wrong... and i'm happy to show you how to do it, or help inspire you. Orks offer the ultimate ability to individualize and personalize your army, and look good doing it.

1. Ork gamers are typically the gamers who like fun. We want to show you why you should play orks. We want to show you the fun of rolling dice. Your MEQ only roll 10 dice at a time? What's the matter with you! This is a dice rolling game, here's 30 lootas shots. Ok maybe 4 hit, buts its 30 dice! We are typically the excited, fun loving guys / gals, who want to have that epic game by moving our sea of models.

2. Our models rock and are "orky" to put together. We have some of the most fantastic models from the standard boy, to the wagon. Plus if you don't like the vehicle its ok.. .make your own! It has always been that way, and should always be that way. The Loota / Burnas kit is like a godsend to Ork players... because we all have mountains of left over bodies so it builds us 4 burnas, 4 lootas, and 1 mek / whatever you can make him.

3. Our rules are.. orky. Horrible BS mitigated by rolling lots of dice. Having an army with some random rules breaks up the amount of people running around with 3+ saves. Similarly people at GT stare at you thinking "I want to play him, but not really." They cringe at us, because we move 100 models are turn, because we get our army where we want it, because we make people WORK for their game. I'm not saying every now and then we don't remove a whole mob from the table because we got hit by 4 heavy flamers, but it happens.

4. Lastly... Burna Wagon... you really have to try it. Place a template, auto hit, then roll those wounds. I've looked at opponents who have the look of horror on their face after. Melting faces is fun.. and its orky.
