Duke Sliscus[150pts]
Blasters Trueborn w/ GL(8x)[156pts]
Raider w/ Racks/Field/Sails[85pts]
2x Wyches(10x)[200pts]
2x Raider w/ Racks/Field/Sails[170pts]
2x Reavers(5x)[220pts]

I always liked Kroot and felt that DE would make a good proxy army. I plan on modelling as aerial cavalry like from the Avatar movie, Wyches are Carnivores. I also felt that the aesthetic for Raiders seemed like something the Kroot would use after they have landed their Warp Spheres on a planet. Not sure what to do with the Truebornes though.

Is this a half decent list? This is going to be mostly casual, however, I want to win at least some of the time.
Any idea on what I can use as mounts?

Gotta tell ya, as a long time Kroot/Tau player, especially loved the Kroot Merc fandex, this... is a brilliant idea. Epecially after fully reading the new DE codex, I might have to steal your idea.

But of course I will ask permission first...may I blatently rip-off your idea?

With regards to the list, I was worried that you didn't have enough antitank, but then was like... well its 1k points, but then had an idea. If you are fielding 3 vehicles at this point level, is it not possible that your opponent might as well? Just a thought...

To be honest I ripped this idea off the Kompletely Kroot site.
As to anti-armour, isn't 3 Dark Lances and 4 Blaster enough at 1k?
And most basic troops can sink Raiders, I don't really count them as, "armour."

Squads of 5 reavers are really inneficent.

I'd switch it to either 3x3 or 1x6.
Id also get some heavy support in there.

You could use krootox as talos, and/or find a way to fit a razorwing / ravagers.

Love the idea though and will give as much advice as I can when I get home later (doing it on my phone would be painful xD)

I actually planned on using the Reavers as light infantry harassment. Not worth the points? I guess it wouldn't hurt to have MORE lances and blasters.

Good idea.

Personally if I were going to do it, i'd be thinking along the lines of:
Converted Kroot Carnivores for Special characters.
Kroot with some kind of armour or even just a 'cape' for Trueborn (& Warriors)
Plain old Kroot for Wyches.
Vehicles you could probably just leave as they are.
Hellions with Kroot on might work.
Which then leads to using Kroot Hounds in beast squads (think Razorwing models, or something similar would fit in with that squad as well)
And Krootox as Talos.

I think a WWP list could work best for you here.

with the eldar jetbike rules the reavers a pretty cheap anti tank hunters. just run squads of 3 with a heat lance and turbo boost 36" to a good position first turn and then pop out and shoot and duck back in the assult phase. thats how ive always run them, and will continue to do unless the 6th changes the eldar jetbike rule.

OK.

I would use Jetbikes as 3-9 with either heat lances, blasters (tank hunting) or cluster caltrops (infantry harrassment).
5 is a number that doesn't take advantage of the options available.

HOWEVER, what's more krooty ( and better in 6th ) will be squads of Scourges ( Winged Kroot ) with Haywire Blasters.

And I'm thinking possibly a mixed Coveny force might be more krootish.

Sliscus > Kroot Shaman.
Haemonculi > Kroot Master Shapers.
Trueborn > Carnivores with fancy guns.
Grotesques > Really Beefy Carnivores / a Smaller Krootox varient.
Wyches > Assaulty Carnivores.
Wracks > Beefy Carnivores.
Scourges > Winged Carnivores.
Beasts Squad > Kroot Hounds + Kroot Beastmaster (Shaper?)
Bikes > Kroot on Pterodactyls.
Talos > Krootox.
Razorwing > Some sort of GIANT flying dino thing with Kroot crew manning guns.
Raiders / Ravagers > Some sort of Knarloc?

But either way...
I would run a Haem (boasting a liquifier gun) with each of the Wych squads for the FNP.
The Raiders want to just have the Flickerfields and maybe the Aethersails (I'd be tempted to run Shock Prows in a Kroot List doubly so). I'd also probably be running the Raiders with Dissintegrater Cannons at this points level as a means to take out termis.
I would honestly not bother with Slicsus at this points level and just have the 2 Haemonculi. OK he gives everything deepstrike, but you're only actually using his Drugs re-roll in this list, and he's using 15% of your total points in 1 model.

Personally, I would do the following list:
2x Haemonculi with Liquifier Guns (Shapers with Acid Guns) - 120pts
2x 3 Kabalite Trueborn with Blasters (Carnivores with Blasters), mounted in Venoms with an extra Splinter Cannon (Tiny Gnarlocs / Larger 'dactyls?) - 244pts
2x 7 Wyches with 1 Wych Weapon, Hekatrix with Agoniser ( Carnivores ) in Raiders with Disintegrator Cannon and Flickerfields. ( Knarlocs? ) - 360pts
2x Ravagers with Flickerfields - 260pts
This is 994pts
It's also 6 vehicles, 6 Blasters, 4 Splinter Cannons, 2 Liquifiers, 14 Wyches, 2 Dissies and 6 Lances.

Honestly, I don't really mind using the their open-topped skimmers as it. I mean the Kroot can't really use their Warp Sphere for all their intraplanet travel right? With a bit of converting, they seem like something I can see the Kroot using.

As for units, I don't really like the Scrourge for 2 reasons. 1) I find it hard to justify the 4+ save and it bothers me. 2) They're kinda expensive for my tastes.

I might consider Haemies, I liked the Duke for his lore, rules, and the idea to convert a Corsair/Merc Kroot Leader.

I'll probably stick in some Kabalites for scoring, since Wyches are pretty flimsy, especially with the coming of overwatch.

Anyone know where I can get some fitting mounts for my Reavers/Kroot Raptors as I call them? Also, what are the rules for matching base/unit size when scratch building/counts as?

Lastly, would a counts-as army of this level be allowed at a tournament, generally speaking? I'm playing with the idea of playing this a one in July.

Duke Sliscus[150pts]
2x Haemonculus[100pts]
2x Kabalite Warriors w/ Blaster[210pts]
2x Raiders w/ Fields[130pts]
2x Wyches w/ Hekatrix[200pts]
2x Raiders w/ Sails/Fields[150pts]
940pts

My strategy is for the Kabalites to zoom around and shoot targets while the Wyches assault.

I have some points saved for Power Weapons/Agonizers depending on how 6th turns out this week end.

Left some points there for Power Weapons/Agonizers depending on how the new book resolves them.

As far as counts as goes, the general rule to allow it to be played, is that everything remains very WYSIWYG, even though its stand in and all units (vehicles especially) are as large as, if not larger than the footprint of the model they represent. Though making them too large is bad, as people could claim modeling for advantage.

Long story short, make everything very distinguishable and as close to that which they represent as possible.
