Subject: 6th edition's effect on SM Bikes

I have been frustrated with people posting asking questions about how 6th ed will affect their army, and i usually mumble to myself something along the lines of, 'Just wait a week and you can answer all questions youself'. But curiosity got the better of me, so i'm here asking... I will be running a Khan bike list, using around 30 bikers and 5 tanks ( av 12/13). Now i know Hull Points are in with tanks, and the new, revised rules for the damage table, and the affect of melta being +2, but i know relatively little about bikes in the new edition. Now, while i cant quite decide whether Hull Points are a good or bad thing, i'm more worried about whether or not my bikers will be able to stand up to the new edition. Any info would be hugely appreciated Zambro

Touché Any info about bikes for me to dwell upon, and how they will affect play style?

It sounds like bikes are getting buffed slightly from what I hear.
It appears they get Hammer of Wrath impact hits on assault. The changes to rapid fire really don't affect their bolters. Also, their potential charge of up to 12" means they have a 24" threat radius if you're lucky.

Also, if the new wound allocation rules are correct, bikers should have a better advantage to maneuver into better positions for picking off desired models.

The new rules look like they'll favour plasma, melta and power fists, so bikes should be okay.
From rumours they'll get a permanent 5+ cover save, which increases to 4+ if you turbo boost (which is a 12 inch movement in the shooting phase, so you can move, see if you want to shoot, then boost if you don't). They're relentless (which means they can assault after shooting, although new rapid fire rules means they won't be that advantaged at shooting compared to a tactical based army.
Relic blades are power weapons, so probably AP3 now. Lightning claws are power weapons, so also AP3.
Basically you won't have a huge chance of dealing with TEQs in melee, so max out on plasma and multi-meltas and shoot them to death.
At the moment my bikes will continue to run. (at 2000)
Captain, relic blade, bike
Captain, relic blade, bike
Command squad, bikes, 2 x melta, 4 x storm shield, 3 x lightning claw, 1 x thunder hammer
Command squad, bikes, 2 x melta, 4 x storm shield, 3 x lightning claw, 1 x thunder hammer
5 + AB, power fist, 2 x melta, multi-melta
5 + AB, power fist, 2 x plasma, multi-melta
5 + AB, power fist, 2 x plasma, multi-melta
4 + AB, power fist, 2 x plasma, multi-melta
If it looks like I'll need more AP2 melee, I'll drop some of the lightning claws for power axes.

Congo Lines for bikes got nerfed, since it takes off models from front to back.
At 2000pts, the FoC gets doubled.
Permenant 5+ Cover save.
Turbo Boost is in the Shooting Phase, giving up any shooting. It allows you to go up to 36", (12 from the normal move, 24 from the boost)

Is turbo boost still 24"? Bloodglaive says it's 12" in shooting, but Crazyterran says otherwise...

Seems to me that bikes got huge boost. If I interpreted correctly, their +1 T is included in their calculation for ID. The FAQ states that if a model has two characteristics (I.e. one in parentheses), ignore the lower value. I have yet to read in the BRB that ID ignores modifiers. If this is true, FNP bikers are the business. Hello Blood Rodeo...

You move 12 in the movement phase and 12 in the shooting phase for 24.
Jetbikes get a 24 inch boost so 36 total, and Eldar jetbikes (all types of Eldar) get 36 inch boost for a total of 48.

Yes, BA bike lists will be the schiz. As will vanilla bike lists with command squads.
