Uh, ok. I recently bought two rogue trader landspeeders. I know the models look goofy, but I am in need of lots of landspeeders and they were very cheap and cheerful. I thought I could run them as chapter relics and stick some purity seals on them etc. to represent this. One just arrived in the post, the model actually looks far better in person, but...

I have misjudged its size completely! It is only slightly larger than a basic space marine bike, and the crew are midgets! Seriously. It looks like it is being piloted by children in power armour, or perhaps they are squats in disguise? Heh. I had plans to replace the crew anyway, but how am I going to do this when the existing seats are designed for marines 2/3 the size of modern ones? Thoughts? I have considered simply straddling one biker marine in the centre with feet on both seats, but then I will have to move the multimelta mount, and it might look silly. I could leave it as is but the small marines look daft in comparison with the rest of my army.

Personally, I would keep them as is. Ultimately, it is up to you. I wouldn't have an issue, as they ARE old models, and of course the guys on the table aren't real My wife's Orks have the old truks, with extra small Orks in them. Now admittedly it works better for hers as they just took small orks to drive them as they might not be fit for combat. You probably can't do that as easily with Space Marines.

Also, keep in mind that models back in the Rogue Trader days were slightly smaller. Just explain t hat they are from the Rogue Trader era, and the models themselves are possibly older than the people asking the questions That doesn't happen to me as I'm an old fart.

Ok, I hacked away at a spare biker's legs to get the correct sitting pose and modelled a modern space marine pilot for this thing. It looks somewhat better than the original pilot, though he's a wee bit too big compared to the craft itself which is a bit comical. Oh well. I was going to get a picture but unfortunately I have lost the camera's usb cable (we are moving house) so I had to use my laptop's camera. I'll try and get some better pics up in about a weeks time when I should have a camera at the ready and everything modelled and painted. For now here's a blurry picture of some blobs.
The grey splodge is the new plastic pilot, and the black thing to the left is a modern landspeeder for size comparison.

You might be better off just having 1 of the modern marines on a central seat and call it an over-large jet-bike with automated turrets

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

...I probably would have traded you for them.
The old school speeders are pretty awesome, I get that you may not agree. You could probably get away with using SM bikers and add some footpegs just a thought.

The RT era modles aren't too bad. Though I personelly like the 2nd edition land speeders myself. Good luck and hope this works out for you.

I like the helmets of the old RT landspeeders. When I break down and buy a flyer I'll definitely have to track one of the marines from the old landspeeders to use as the pilot.

Oh and you are better off with small speeders to decrease true LOS profile. So your play will be better!

Meh, I had someone try to give me gaff about my mk1 predators and vindicators not so long ago because of TLOS. I told him to stuff it in his ear, older models are cool and their cool factor makes up for their size.

I absolutely love the MkI rhinos and the vehicles built from them. I am lucky enough to have 2 MKI predators.

Seriously. If he wants to pay for all new models for you then fine, but otherwise the old ones are perfectly legal and awesome.

Have you thought of using them as Attack Bikes instead? I reckon this would be feasible, unless you absolutely have to use Land Speeders.
