So Dakka, I recently found out that my current girlfriend's ex-fiance has hit her, like fairly recently in the last couple weeks, leaving bruises. Is there anything I can legally do besides call the cops the next time it happens??
Note:he does owe her quite a bit of $$ under the table, so If there's a way to get around that while removing him from her life??

Show her how to use a 9mm.

Wait, your current girlfriend and he has hit her within the last couple of weeks? While you guys were dating?

I know what I would do. I would sit outside his house, wait for him to go to sleep and then.....

Spoiler:
Take her to the police station and file assault and battery charges and then get an order of protection. Because that will stay with him forever and keep him from getting certain jobs. Which feels so much better in the long run than beating him up and getting assault and battery charges on yourself.

At least over here, Domestic Violence is considered a Public Crime, meaning that if you as a citizen have any information regarding a case of Domestic Violence, you have no only the right, but the duty to report it to the police, even if the victim doesn't want to press charges herself.

I would report it if I was you, too many of those cases escalate to a murder for someone to ignore them.

Agreeing with this. No way to know if the dude is the "if I can't have you no one will *blam*" type, or just a dude who has serious anger management issues and needs lessons from a 2x4. Either way, the answer is "go to the police".

He owes her money, and they still own things together, since they were engaged. He likes trying to control her, so he and I don't get along.

But I have contacted police on the issue, so hopefully this will get resolved
