Hey Dakka. Still really new to MTG, and wondering if you can use Mountain lands for Plains creatures? Thanks!

Been a LONG time since I played MTG, but:
Lands generate mana as indicated on the card. Cards then require mana of the appropriate colors.
That's it, in a nutshell. There's usually (Again, my knowledge is over a decade out of date) cards that break this flow: allowing conversion of mana, providing mana of any desired color, etc.

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.

Huh? Are you asking if you may use red mana to pay for white mana costs? Or for the unspecified "grey"mana costs?

Red mana for white mana. Basically Mountain mana lands to summon Plains creatures.

You can use red mana to pay for the greyed out numbers in the cost of a white creature. You cannot use it to pay for the number of white mana symbols on the card. So, for example, if you have three mountains and one plains out and two cards in your hand, one of which costs one white mana and one colorless mana and another which costs two white mana, you could play the first card (you can use the plains to pay the white mana and the mountain to pay the colorless), but you couldn't play the second card because you can only use white mana to pay for it and you only have one plains out.

You could play a spell that would let you get white mana from a mountain, but the only cards I can think of that do this are Celestial Dawn and False Dawn.
Or, for a permanent fix that doesn't require white mana in the first place. Cast Sunglasses of Urza and then cast a few Mindbends on it to make it so red mana can become white mana.
