Subject: Sword and Board with MoT 5+ ward?

Hi dakka,
Just wondered, I have Warriors with Sword and Shield with the MoT. I was wondering if it is a 6+ parry followed by 6+ ward or whether its a 5+ ward?
Thanks in advance,
ATO

It is only a 5+ ward for things that can be parried. So in melee against normal strikes, yes, you get a 5+ parry.
Still will be 6+ against shooting, stomps, magic, etc.

Correct.
Best way to think f it is that you only get the 5+ against normal melee attacks, everything else is 6+ (unless you have Blasted Standard or other protections running).

ok cool thank you very much for that. Last question for you regards stand and shoot. So i charged his 20 crossbows, is it true that he gets his 40 shots with no modifiers? If he shoots can he attack that turn in combat? and can he stand and shoot if he has fired in his turn before my charge?
Thanks in advance,

MoT improves wards by one or grants a 6+, so you get a 5+ against normal CC attacks coming from the front and everything else is on the 6+.

He will be taking modifiers.
-1 to hit for double-shot.
-1 to hit for stand and shoot
And, depending on range, another -1 for that, but he is at -2 at least.
And yes, they can fight as normal. And he can fire as a reaction even if he shot before.

Aw nice one thanks man, I didnt realise you get a -1 for double shot, I take it that applies to normal shooting phase. So if im correct at long range and after moving he should be hitting on 6s with his Dark Elves 3 to hit normally, -1 for moving, -1 for long range and -1 for double shot. Damm i feel cheated lol.

Well, unless your opponent has a history of pulling sneaky shenanigans, give them the benefit of the doubt. Everyone has to learn the game.

6's to hit with 40 shots is still an average of 7 hits. This is the exact same number of hits if he did single shots hitting on 5+.
Usually I don't move AND fire long range in the same turn unless there is nothing else to shoot at.
Hitting on 5's with 40 shots is a nice 13 hits though, but only S3. So good for most infantry as you'll get 5 wounds on most units before armor, which will be -1 anyway.
I'm not really sure where I was going with this.
