So I was reading the Eldar entry in the new 6th edition book where I noticed something peculiar. It states that very few humans have traversed the webway, often getting lost and finding dead ends. It then goes on to saying that there are rumors of Necron fleets hidden in the webway. Does this make sense? (Page 205 in the collector's edition)

From my perspective, I guess it kind of can. 99.99% of the Eldar are dead so there are unwatched portals just sitting around, so I guess Necrons can stumble in there. But if that's the case, why doesn't the Imperium use them or destroy them since the Imperium outnumber the Necrons a butt load to one. So, the chances of the Imperium discovering them is greater than the Necrons.

At the same time, I feel kind of peeved that Eldar lost their one advantage that no body else had. So now we know Necrons don't jump the galaxy using inertia cancelers only, but traverse the webways as well, since they hate the warp.

Just wanted to know Dakka's thoughts on this.

It's not that there are gateways to the webway just sitting around unguarded. The necron developed a method of breaking into the webway and using it for themselves using devices called Dolmen Gates. This was back during the War in Heaven. But because they awoke to find their normal gateway system in ruins, they went back to using Dolmen Gates as one of their primary means of transportation. Normally, it requires a psychic component to activate a webway portal, which is why other races can't just hop into the webway even when they do find a potal.

So the Dolmen Gates are a replacement for the psychic components needed to activate the portal? Was this pre or post 5th edition Necrons?

Dolmen Gates are a 5e codex invention. They're not a bad idea, but like most of Ward's work, was simply described in a poor manner.

I've got to take a look at the new codex. Lets just hope the Necrons don't find the Black Library.

Slight alteration. The dolmen gates aren't a way to open an existing portal, but instead rips open a hole in the webway on their own. The Eldar spent quite a bit of time locking down key points of the webway to prevent this from happening, but they weren't entirely successful.

The imperium would be doomed if it ever attempted a full on invasion of the web way. Small incursions are possible, but at this point it would be like marching a billion troops into a rickety mine shaft to kill an enemy that knows where to collapse weak spots.

"AM are bunch of half human-half robot monkeys who keep tech working by punching it with a wrench And their tech is so sophisticated that you could never get it wrapped it out" thing a LITTLE to seriously. It also goes "Tau tech is so awesome I wish I was Tau and not some stupid Human" thing.

Originally, Magnus was supposed to lead an incursion into the Webway from Terra once the Golden Throne was completed. IMO, the Throne would have been a master-control of sorts once linked to the original Webway - from there, either Magnus or the Emperor could lockdown, extend, and repair the Webway at will. Think of it like this: an Eldar Fleet hides in the Webway to ambush the Expeditionary Force. Whoever's sitting on the Throne (either Magnus or the Emperor) would simply seal off that section, then vent it into the Warp. Afterwards, its reopened once integrity is restored. The Webway was the key for the next stage of the Emperor's plan after all. That's the primary reason He went back to Terra in the first place.

I should have left him there. He had served his purpose. He owed me nothing - yet he gave himself to me willingly. Why? I know not. He is nothing more than a pathetic human. An inferior race. A mon-keigh. But still I broke off my wings so that I might carry him easier. I took him from that place, into the snowstorm where our tracks will not be found. He is heavy. And he is dying. And he is slowing me down. But I will save him. Why? I know not. He is still warm. I can feel his blood ebbing across me. For every beat of his heart, another, slight spill of heat. The heat blows away on the winter wind. His blood is still warm. But fading. And I have spilled scarlet myself. The snow laps greedily at our footsteps and our lifeblood, covering them without a trace as we fade away.

At this point the emperor is a veggie sitting on a broken toilet. So for the for present setting in 40k, web way invasions are not likely. They had a shot, blew it with a civil war and lost it.

Which is unfortunately true. But on the rare occasion they can attack through or in the Webway (Gothic War/Commoragh Raid) the Imperium's iron fist more often than not devastates the enemy.

So, if the Golden Toilet has that much potential, even if it is failing, why aren't the Eldar trying desperately to destroy it. Granted, its probably in the most secure sector of the galaxy, and more than likely no one has enough psychic potential to activate it (save Tiguris, since apparently his psychic might rivals that o the Emperor), but still.

On a side note, anyone know how big the webway is? I've been writing some fluff for my Eldar (I really need to think of a good name), and I said that the Craftworld was not large enough to fit into the webway, in which they did a warp jump. That didn't end well for them, especially since the Craftworld had a psychic gaping hole in the infinity matrix because they were partially caught in the blast radius called "Slaneesh".

My friend said that Craftworlds can enter webways, but I always thought they were too big to go in there. If a recall, the webway had different sizes along its path, some large enough for cruisers to fit, while others only allowed infantry to pass.

On another side note, considering the Imperium of Man loves doing the whole "let's squeeze as much as we can now for the war effort, then worry about the backlashes later" approach, I'm surprised that a lot of the webway portals are still working. I mean, if you are building continent-sized apartment buildings, I'm sure you're going to accidentally bump your nose on the portal, invisible or not.

Because Magnus already wrecked its connection to the Webway, that's why. The reason the Emperor wanted Magnus brought back to Terra was because Magnus was the only other person who could survive while keeping Throne under control while the Emperor repaired the damage. Any sufficiently powerful psyker could do it, but a Human or perhaps even an Astartes couldn't do it without getting killed in the process - look at Malcador and note that the only reason he was allowed to control the Throne (to his demise) was because the first choice (who had both power and endurance to use and survive the Throne) was unavailable. And even if all the Eldar assaulted Terra assuming the Heresy didn't happen and the Throne neared completion, the Fists and Custodes could easily hold them back from the near-impregnable Imperial Palace until the legions arrive. I doubt the Eldar could hope to win once the Sons of Horus and the other legions arrived. And there is Mars. Imperial technology at the time was starting to catch up to the post-Fall Eldar, as evidenced by things like Jetbikes and the Golden Throne (although the Emperor was responsible for the latter), so an assault on Terra then (and now) by the Eldar would have zero chances of success.

The Webway's size has never been defined, but most tunnels are only big enough for people and vehicles to pass. But the main passageways that run across the galaxy are supposed to be large enough for fleets to pass through with no difficulty.

Oh right I remember now, that was why the Emperor told Leman Russ to bring Magnus in.

So now the next step that I don't' understand is that how can the Golden Throne sustain the Emperor if its job is to control the webways?

After the final confrontation with Warmaster Horus, the Emperor instructed the Tech-Priests maintaining the Golden Throne to modify it to include life-support and stasis systems before they swapped him with Malcador. Malcador died immediately, while the Emperor gave final instructions before going comatose. I assume the Webway functions are still intact, as the ruptured Webway Gate behind the Throne is still being kept shut by the Emperor (and it was, in fact, why Malcador had to use it in the first place - keep the Gate closed until the Emperor came back - though as he was only Human, he lost his life in the process).
