I have just been to my FLGS and told that flyers are a MUST in 6th. So as I don't have any flyers at all I wanted to know what others in Dakka land are playing for Space Puppies. Was also thinking that I may have any flyers in a Bothers-in-arms allied force, though not sure who i'm going to allie with at the moment.

If they have Brothers in Arms with GK or BA you could take a Storm Raven as an allied attachment and stick your own troops in it. Could also ally with vanilla SM for Storm Talon but it's pretty meh.

Unnessesarily extravegant word of the week award goes to jcress410 for this:

What about some imperial guard brothers and go with a Valkyrie Vendetta? Throw in a few Leman Russ battle tanks while you're at it and it'd be an insane army. Space Wolves with battle cannons... just think about that for a moment

There's an idea, I'd not thought about that combination.

Who told you flyers are a must? The employee or fellow gamers? I am thinking they are not a must unless everyone has one in the army...even then you maynot need one. Plan for it yes, but don't go out and buy one because someone told you they are a must. Use what works for you or what you want to play.

Believe me, you don't want stuff to be in your Flyer transports. If they blow up, dies(Passengers take a Str10 hit with no armor saves allowed)

Flyers are great for strafing the enemy though. A Stormraven with MM and Psybolt Assault Cannon and Hurricane Bolters is a nasty gunboat. POTMS the MM at a tank, pop everything else at some infantry.

Its great for assassinating stuff.

Vendettas will be the same way.

You could also look at options for anti-aircraft. Long Fangs w/ missile launchers now have a new ammo type - FlaKK missiles R48", S7 AP4, Heavy 1, skyfire. Those will be good for shooting down aircraft and skimmers.

You could also look into the imperial Bastion and Fortress of Redemption. They both have the Icarus Lascannon which is basically a TL lascannon with twice the range and the interceptor and skyfire special rules. It's good at shooting aircraft AND you get a free shot at reserves as they come in.

Plus the fortress of redemption can have the "Krakstorm Missile" upgrade which is a whole bunch of whoopass.

Quick thing, the missile launcher thing is wrong, as it is an upgrade that you have no option of buying (see page 57).

You're right. It says "Some have the ability to upgrade".

No. You cannot put models from the ally in the base army's vehicles, nor can you put models from the base army in the ally's vehicles. (outside of apocalypse games, that is)
