So, I know that I for one will be trying out some of the fortifications, and I'm wondering what Everyone else thinks of them. I was going to get an Imperial Bastion to try out in my 1750 point army, and then I got to my local store and found a Fortress of Redemption for 90$, needless to say, I spent a little more than I intended that day.

So, here are a few questions I'd like to know from everyone.

First: Do you plan on using Fortifications, if so, which ones.

Second: What does everyone think of the point costs, I for one feel that the Fortress of Redemption is expensive, but looking at what you get for those points is amazing.

Third: Do you like the Addition of Fortifications to armies or not?

I plan on using the aegis defense lines with my Scouts with camo cloaks. They are going to camp an objective in my deployment zone.

They other ones look okay, but they cost more that the defense lines.

Not a tourney player, so I really love the idea and implementation of fortifications. The expanded building rules, and everyone being able to take the three Imperial ones (because, really, they are probably everywhere anyways). Me and my buddies set up tables for cinematic fights, so this (and much of the rulebook) is nirvana for us.

I for one would like to use the bastion for some AA addition to my army. It also fits the narrative of my army, being Alpha Legion

Question:

If there such thing as Cannon based forifications?

I know there are Enplacements (like a towed gun, Earthshaker, medusa, Heavy Mortar etc), or Autocannon/Lascannon/heavyb bolter/ Heavy stubber enplacements

But are there Direct fire cannons? Like a Battle Cannon or Vanquisher Cannon (or even an Executioner Cannon.)

I want to put soemthign liek this behind a ton of sand bags and cover to hammer the enemy into oblivion.

(my store got too few books and lots of people are waiting for the next shipment. so i don't know)

Anyways. I probly will use different variations of Fortifications to suppliment my men. Like another AA gun beside my Hydras if there is a flyer heavy list.

My rulebook still hasn't arrived yet, but from what I have heard some of the fortifications indeed come with weapons and/or can be upgraded with such.

The Imperial Bastion has a built-in lascannon (which arguably is a direct fire weapon), so maybe you could use your idea as a "counts as"? The Bastion might be too protected for its armor value to be suitable for sandbags, though.

[edit] Scratch that, I think all you need are the rules for the Aegis Defence Line. I've just found this short article explaining what you can do with fortifications. The Aegis Defence Line grants units behind it a +4 cover save and can be upgraded with a stationary Icarus-pattern lascannon. Should be just what you were looking for, no?

Well, at the risk of being a D-Bag, I would consider the Aegis Defense line as the best Fort of the bunch. Unless your IG, for now it is the only way to get a cheap AA unit. In addition they are considerred Difficult Terrain, while the Bastion and Fortress have an Armor Value. This indicates to me that a Bastion/Fortress can be destroyed, but the Aegis line can not (so your gun gets to keep firing no matter how many times that BW Deffrolla's it (taking a chance on immobilizing itself each time).
If your planning on playing a defensive game (need lots of 4+ cover for dudes shooting plus LOS blocking for your Ordnance, then a Fortress is your freind....until you roll mission type and you have to go on the Offensive to get an objective.

Life isn't fair. But wouldn't it be worse if Life were fair, and all of the really terrible things that happen to us were because we deserved them?

And I see I reason not to just make your own version, as long as its kept somewhat in line with what exists.

One thing that I will point out is that the Fortress of Redemption is four buildings at AV14 with a pretty decent place to hold up on your deployment zone. For the cost of a single land raider you get four AV14 buildings that have a anti air weapon and some missiles to make your mother cry. Just keep in mind.

I'm looking at an Aegis Defense Line for my Valhallans, as that anti aircraft gun is going to be invaluable. I might Chaosify a Bastion for my Iron Warriors as well, since they're supposed to be all about building fortresses and tearing them down.

Yeah, for the price of an Infantry squad for the Guard you get a 5+ cover save for all of the guys behind it! And of course you can buy weapons too. It's really powerful, I'm planning on getting one as well

First: Do you plan on using Fortifications, if so, which ones.

I'm planning on making some Chaos-themed Aegis Defence Lines. They're cheap and can give me access to some reasonable anti-flyer weaponry. The guns themselves are pretty easy to kill, but it might act as a bit of a deterrent for a while...

Also, the lines come in several sections, but there's no rule to say that they must be placed in contact with each other. Spread them out along the table and give your Rhinos a 4+ cover should you not get first turn Only problem is that they're deployed before terrain, which might make it hard to plan exact moves, but at least it gives you options.

Second: What does everyone think of the point costs, I for one feel that the Fortress of Redemption is expensive, but looking at what you get for those points is amazing.

Costs seem reasonable to me, considering that they're immobile vehicles, essentially. The FOR looks like a fun way to defend an objective (remembering, of course, that you have to disembark to claim objectives) and would make for some cool thematic battles.

Third: Do you like the Addition of Fortifications to armies or not?

Love it. Like anything else (allies...) they WILL be powergamed by someone, but I think the thematic options they open are fantastic.
