Hey Folks,
After a break from some commission projects I've finally got some time to work on my own things! I planned on making this blog as a way of motivating myself to get such a large project done!
I've been an avid collector of SOB for years and have finally decided to dust off, strip and re-paint what I currently have and add a bunch of shiny new things. I am planning on eventually having enough models to fill out the force organization chart. Eventually down the track I would love to work on a crazy, frothing bunch of zealots that could potentially be worked in as IG allies, but for now I plan on keeping it as puritan as possible. Here's a list of what I currently have in my possession, about 90% of the infantry are having to be stripped down and I'm purchasing all the vehicles new:
90+ Battle Sisters (Including VSS, Special Weapons, etc)
20 Seraphim
15 Retributors (Mix of HB, MM, HF)
7 Immolators/Rhinos (Turrets can be switched out)
3 Exorcists
1 Celestine
1 Uriah Jacobus
1 Arch Confessor
9 Battle Conclave members (Converted from sisters of sigmar)
12 Repentia (+1 Mistress)
I'm also working up the guts to go ahead and purchase 6+ penitent engines...but as most of you would understand, convincing the wife is another thing entirely!
My colour scheme consists of lavender purple armour, off-white robes and golden weapons/trinkets. Basing wise, I am completely stuck on what to do..I am definitely open to advice! I would love to go down the custom resin base route...but I am worried of the models breaking off all the time. Does anyone have any neat ideas of pinning these models to the bases? Especially the Seraphim? I would prefer not to do the stock standard sand/grass basing...rather something that adds to the wow factor.
Anyway, without further ado, I present my first squad of completed models (sans basing ), let me know what you think! I apologise for the lack of photo quality...unfortunately I am stuck with my silly camera phone.

The girls are looking lovely. I've got a big batch of SoB that I plan on stripping and repainting at some point, so I’ll be watching this.
Not sure on the basing issue, I agree you might face issues with resin bases and the models snapping off...pity you can't base a test model on a resin base without committing.
How ornate are you wanting the bases? You could probably make something decent with cunning use of cork…
Found this in the gallery by a user called Bartlebad..

Thanks for the comments! Actually I never thought of doing cork basing, those do look awesome. I'll look around the internet and will see what I can find tutorial wise. Thanks for the tip! Automatically Appended Next Post: So a quick update - it's been a very productive 4th of July so far. I managed to put the finishing touches to a second squad of Sisters...20 down...plenty more to go!
I'm not sure about you guys, but I like to treat myself after painting multitudes of rank and file troops. To celebrate I've gone ahead and primed my Battle Conclave with Uriah. The Battle Conclave consist of Sisters of Sigmar models as a base, with added weaponary from the Black Templar sprues. It will be a lot of fun painting these guys. Enjoy!

That is a really nice purple color.
And wow, I love the battle conclave! I do the same thing as far as changing over to a character or something as a reward for completing RnF.
Edit- how are you going to paint the tanks, as far as what colors will go where? I am trying to envision the tanks all matched to the armor and robes.

Thank you!
I have all 7 Immo's put together ready to go, but am still unsure of how to go about it. I'll be airbrushing my vehicles for sure, with the main colour being the purple you see on the infantry...but the insets I'm still uncertain about. Maybe the off-white colour that I'm using for the robes? Regardless, I aim to do some extensive freehanding on the vehicles. I found a fleur de lys stamp at Michael's the other day and I can't wait to use that to add some variety. Any suggestions on the vehicle insets would be appreciated

Hey Folks!
Well, what a busy couple of weeks it's been for me. As a result, I haven't had a whole lot of time to get things done hobby-wise, but thankfully I managed to sit down and finish Uriah Jacobus and Battle Conclave last night. As always I do apologize for the photo quality.. I am still unfortunately stuck with my cellphone camera.
Next on the painting table, I have a full squad of Retributors. However that may get delayed as tommorow I'm visiting a friend who has a surplus of Sanguinary Guard Winged backpacks that I'm hoping to fit onto my Seraphim... and as you'd expect that would be far more tempting to paint!
Please let me know what you think! Thanks for stopping by.

Thanks for the feedback guys! I really appreciate it
Believe it or not, I'm actually using GW paints, which I'm thoroughly enjoying right now. I use most of the purple shades and washes (Druchii Violet, Naggaroth Night, Xereus Purple, Genestealer Purple) for the armour. Quite a process, but I'm rather happy with the results so far.
As far as basing goes, I think I'm going to dive into the deep end and purchase some custom resin bases. My friends here in town haven't had any issues in sticking metal models to them, so they managed to convince me to give it a try.
Currently on the painting board, I have a squad made up of the following: 4 Rets w/ HB's, 1 Ret w/ HF, 1 x Flamer, 1 x Meltagun, 1 x VSS w/ PS and 2 Reg sisters. It was more of a case of what was ready to get out of the stripping box. They're probably about 75% finished. I managed to put together my Seraphim with the Sanguinary Guard backpacks and I must say they're a perfect fit! I would even go so far to say they look better than the original backpacks.
I'm trying to aim to have the entire army ready for the Feast of Blades Open tournament in October...which means that in order to somewhat compete on an appearance level, I will have to really 'bring it' as far as a display board/theme is concerned.
My current musings on a 1999pts list (Fluffy, but somewhat playable )
Celestine
Uriah Jacobus
10 Battle Sisters - MM, Meltagun, SS with Melta Bombs/Combi flamer.
10 Battle Sisters - MM, Meltagun, SS with Melta Bombs/Combi flamer.
10 Battle Sisters - MM, Meltagun, SS with Melta Bombs/Combi flamer.
10 Seraphim - 2 x sets of hand flamers, VSS with Melta Bombs.
10 Seraphim - 2 x sets of hand flamers, VSS with Melta Bombs.
2 x Exorcists
10 Retributors - 4 x HB
Guard Allies
1 Primaris Psyker (Wanted to take a more buffy discipline and will base the model off a warrior priest figure (Maybe even a Necromunda Redemptionist Ganger model)
1 Command Squad (Flamers at this point...may switch)
5 Infantry Squads (Mixture of flamers, meltaguns and melta bombs) - Modelled as Zealots using Empire Flagellent Bits mixed with Catachan arms...and probably a ton of Greenstuff!!!
1 Marbo (Could you imagine the modelling possibilities of having him attached to a zealot style army? )
Anyway, that's a rough outline of what I'm thinking of taking. Display board is going to be a tough one...thinking of a rundown monastery on a desert planet that all sorts of beautiful freehand banners draping down the sides that is slowly being reclaimed by the red-ish sands. For the custom resin basing for the models, I'm leaning towards the Flagstone basing from Secret Weapon Miniatures. I've had to paint some up for a client before and they turned out really nice (It helps that he wanted red dusting all over them too ).
Anyway, just thought I'd share some of my ideas at this point. I'm hoping to have some more pictures for you guys by the weekend!
As always, thanks for stopping by!

Not a bad list. I'd drop the third BSS for one dominion squad. You already have a ton of scoring with the infantry squads.

Hey all,
Just another update. Finally got around to finishing my retributor squad. It's really nice and satisfying to start seeing everything come together...although I still have so much more to go! Just a quick snapshot of everything that's assembled and/or painted:
So many tanks! And unfortunately that's not even counting the three Exorcists I have lying around in various stages of assembly!
As I promised, I also have pictures of my Seraphim that are using the Sanguinary Guard backpacks. I'm stuck between painting the 'feathers' white or gold...any suggestions? I'm REALLY excited to be able to paint these gals!
You probably won't hear much from me in the next month or so as I am travelling back home to Australia to visit family. One of the great things about this is that I finally can pick up the rest of the SoB models that I left and bring them back with me for a swim in the 'ol pinesol! As you can see below, this will certainly boost my army up significantly and will give me a lot more options if I decide to tinker around with various army combinations. Pic below:
Anyway that's it for now, I will post again when I return from my vacation. Thanks!

The lavender armor looks very nice. I have to ask, what Order? Or is it a custom one?
As for wing color, here's one for gold.

Oh, and I love the featherd wings, btw.
When I did my Seraphim (probably 10 years ago), I bitz-ordered a ton of Swooping Hawk wings (the little metal ones). I snipped off the tubes on the bottom of the Seraphim backpacks and added the wings to the bottom. They still look great after all these years.

@Pretre: I took a look at your gallery and love the way your Seraphim turned out!
@Dicrel Seijin: I haven't thought of an order yet...it'll probably be a custom one. Any name suggestions are highly appreciated
As it turns out I started painting the top rim of the wings gold, with the feathers being white. I'm keeping the fingers crossed that these ladies will turn out nicely!
Thanks guys!

Hey guys!
Thanks so much for everyone's comments. It really really helps me in staying motivated to get this rather large army completed. Also, sorry for the delay in posting. For the past month and a half I've been overseas visiting home (Australia) and haven't made much progress. Amongst starting a new job and a host of other stuff to deal with, it's been a pretty crazy time!
However I have now returned!
This weekend I am happy to present the Seraphim! They were so much fun to paint. As can be seen from the below picture (sincere apologies for the quality) I haven't based them yet and the VSSs sword is awaiting some airbrush work (I like to pull out the airbrush when I have a few items to do...not just a piddly sword!)
As for the basing, I have finally found the perfect fit! While travelling back home, I went to the FLGS and noticed a company called Back to Basix that produced resin bases that I hadn't seen before. If you haven't heard of these guys before I highly recommend checking them out - my order to be delivered to the US arrived exceptionally quickly. Now I have 150 of these: http://www.back2base-ix.com/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=18
Time is certainly ticking down until the Feast of Blades tournament in Colorado and I still have a tremendous amount of models to paint. Currently what I'd like to get done by the end of the month is as follows:
-Celestine
-50 Zealots ( IG Platoon)
-2 Exorcists
-2 Immolators
-12 Sisters
If I can get this completed on time, then that gives me almost a month of working on my display board.
After finishing my Seraphim for the time being...it's time for the next batch (It never ends! ) Here I present almost half the Zealots that I plan on taking:
These guys are going to have white robes (with a tad of airbrushed brown on the bottom to represent the desert dust), so hopefully they'll turn out okay.
That's it for now folks - thanks again for stopping by! I aim to have another update next weekend.

Just another quick update.
I seem to be in a bit of a ruckus at the moment. After painting up some of my Zealots, it turns out to me that they don't really fit in the general theme of the army that well. Since their robes are white...it's feeling more like a toga party at the moment. My question to you guys is, would you prefer (or be more "WOW'ed" to see an ALL sisters force, or do you think I should keep trying to go for the Sisters/Allied Zealot theme? Keep in mind that I'm mostly trying to go for soft scores at the tournaments that I attend. I should have some pictures of the Zealots in the next day or so.
Please let me know what you think!
