Aegis Defense Line is 4+. It counts as area terrain for going to ground behind it, so if you go to ground behind it, you get +2 to your cover save.

Thanks for the info guys. I had been reading that the Aegis Defense Line was 3+ in some forums and it didn't make any sense.

They use the rules for Barricades and Walls, and Defence Lines (p104 & p114).

It was in 5th i believe, but as with so much else it has been modified by 6th edition.

These are probably references from Apocalypse Reload, where IG could take a "Defence Lines" strategic asset that gave a 3+ cover save.

Are the defence lines impassable if you want to move OVER it?

If you shoot at a unit snugged up against the line, but have full LOS on them, do they still get the save?
|||WALL||| Enemy <---Shooter
as opposed to:
Enemy|||WALL||| <-----Shooter

Corner wrapping shenanigans will ensue with scout snipers (camo cloaks and Telion=2+ cover save) if you can't hop OVER the barricade.

Here's another question with the defense lines...

Say I pay 50 points and place all my sections in a straight line.. since there's nothing that says they have to wrap in a circle..

Could I play all my Las/Plas Razorbacks behind it and let a slew of vehicles enjoy 4+ cover saves?

They show it wrapped in a circle in the book, so yes.

This formation is totally broken unless some clarification is given/derived.

Only requirement for placing Aegis Defence Line is that each line section is touching one other line section.

There is no requirement for Aegis Defence line to be wrapped in circle.
There's no requirement for it to be even put as single line, you can do up to 4 separate sections if you wish.

Rulebook showing it wrapped as circle means absolutely nothing. The Aegis Defence Line Box shows it being deployed as two semi-circles.

A single straight or curved line it OK(so long as the sections are touching).
A single zig-zag Line is OK.
A Box Is OK.
4 Strips with 1 Long and 1 Short(or any combination, to a max of 4 long, and 4 Short represented) is OK.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.

couple of quick questions:

1. blast template hits behind my Defense line, still get cover from it ?

2. blast template hits behind my defense line, go to ground still get 2+ save?

3. How far back does the defense give cover, (12" from edge, place all units 1 behind the other do they all get cover?

4. Do i like ginger snap cookies?

1) Yes, unless the Blast Marker was fired from a Barrage weapon, and the Center hole is entirely behind the Line.

2) Yes.

3) Look to TLOS, you get a Cover save so long as 25% of your model that has the wound allocated to it is obscured by the Defense Line from the point of view of the shooter.

4) I am going to say.... Yes? But more as a once in a while thing then an everyday.

How did I do on the Ginger snaps question anyway?

So looking at it some I've decided the following...

Vehicles behind the Aegis defense line need to be 25% covered in order to gain the cover save.

This probably rules out all the skimmers, as their flying bases make them jut up a little too high..

Rhinos and tanks (Not Landraider sized..).. It's a hard call. Do you think they are 25% covered? We asked 10 people today during a game and got our sample size split right down the middle.. 5 thought yes and 5 thought no.

What about moving through it? can my opponent move through it like nothing is there? is there a problem with assaulting through it.

Also about rhinos and cover?
Rhino=2 inches tall
Defense line= 1 inch tall at its lowest point
1 3/4 inches tall at its highest. SOO i say cover save.

I looked in the Battlefield Debris section, and it says that ADL's follow the rules for walls and barriers... which have no stipulation about not driving through them..so I guess it's same as anything else.. Dont roll a 1 lol..

Also.. in that same section it covers assaults through the ADL.

P. 104

If a model is in cover behind a barricade or wall, it has a 4+ cover save. For the purposes of charge moves, models that are both in base contact with a barricade and within 2" of each other are treated as being in base contact. Despite the models on either side not literally being in base contact, the combatants fight nonetheless.

The only thing I wonder about is that it may or may not cover the total mass of the vehicle. They are wider than they are tall. Also, what happens when you put a lascannon turret on top? That adds quite a bit more height.

Well, it's still difficult terrain, but you can't be further than 2inches away from it or your opponents get the same cover save you do I would imagine.

Still, it does a lot for 50 points.
