So, I'm a little lost about witch hunt (being new to this game doesn't help)

I get to make an advance/attack upon receiving a magic attack, but the def. of magic attack is a little ambiguous.
Are magic attacks only attacks done via spells? Do magical weapon attacks count? what?

Magic Attacks are offensive spells. Prime page 77, Primal page 80, minibook page 57.

If it was triggered by attacks from magical weapons, it would say so.

Basically someone hurls a magic attack in the form of a spell at your battlegroup which is offensive, it triggers witch hunt. Per the rules attacks from "magical weapons" are not magical attacks.

Witch Hunt can make you really fast against some armies. Rhan's Battlemage list is not a fan of Reznik, however some armies, really do not require making spell attacks, as they shoot you just fine with regular ranged attacks, and it doesn't trigger witch hunt

Yeah I got it, I'm just graduating from battlebox games and am trying to figure out what way to go.

I sort of like the idea of a warcaster that can do some damage in mellee, but will probably go ekreos if I like playing that way, rez just seems too specific

eKreoss is a much easier caster to learn then Reznik. His feat is one of the best IE auto hitting and causing an addl attack. If you want to really clear out infantry, a unit of daughters of flame becomes good vs any type of infantry they clear out single wound models fast, and against Medium based models with usually 8 boxes their charge roll + 2 more attacks can drop models fast or do auto damage.

Actually, magical attacks come from
1. Spells
2. Any weapon with the "magical weapon" ability.

May want to re-read the first post, Kiwidru.

It's about Magic Attacks, not MagicAL Attacks. They're two different things in WM/H. In fact, from that very thread and Pg. 68 of Prime:

" Attacks made with magical weapons are not magic attacks. "

So, yes, something can be a MagicAL Attack without being a Magic Attack. Witch Hound specifies Magic Attacks, not MagicAL like Passage.

"If a model in this model's battlegroup is hit by an enemy magic attack,..."

Platuan is correct based on the strick RAW of privateer press. In the resolution you would go straight from Reznik's card IE when the battlegroup is hit by a "magic attack" NOT a "magical attack." Its kinda dumb i know, but that's how WMDH works, strick easy interpretations of rules.
