Subject: Power Axe or Power fist for champions/sergeants?

So, while building my list I looked at all my trusty chaos champions and their mighty power fists and though of the good old days when they got an extra PF attack from their pistols... looking back at my list I realized I'm paying the high price of the PF again without reasoning if it was my best choice... if I'm going to strike last with my champions I want to make the most damage possible so looking at the Power Axes and doing some math on the avg rolls a power axe champion would kill more T4 models than a PF champion without loosing the ability to still inflict some damage on models with terminator armor, if calculated with zerks it gets even better, if you manage to charge with them you 50% more wounds wielding an axe than a power fist.
Again this only would work for T4 and below and would lack any real defense against MC/Walkers, still the reduction in points might be worth it. Hell you could even get a power axe and a melta bomb for those pesky MC/walkers and still would be cheaper than the PF. Still curious of the community opinion on the matter.

I think it depends on several factors. First being is who are you planning on facing. In a challenge the powersord sergeant is generally best gainst other sergeants that have PFist, PKs, etc. This is also true if you're planning on having a charatcer in the unit as well so you have someone available for challenges and your super-killy awsomesauce character is allowed to cause havok and not forced to waste a turn fighting a scrub sergeant.
However, if your unit is on the more fighty side, then perhaps a powerfist might be best for assurance against all comers. Nothing is worse than having marines chomped slowly by a dreadnought they cannot kill.

Yah I agree the power fist is safer for all comers, it helps you against pretty much anything, still was wondering if the price was worth it on this edition. For challenges you are completely right, power swords seem to be better guess we'll see a mix of all the different weapons. Still not sure if PFs will be the standard for every champion/sergeant.
Thank the dark gods for the 6th starter pack that will include chaos chosen with various weapons that will serve as champions

Keep in mind that if you legitimately can't kill an opponent, you can auto-fail your morale to try and fall back out of combat.
Also krak grenades will make it "possible" (read: not probable) to kill that dread. A fist won't really give you great odds of killing the dread either though.
I think power fists are going to be kind of obsolete; and the power axe, being 10 points less, in most cases will get used more. I think you'll find MEQ squads mixing it up with a couple sgts with power swords while others have power weapons, and then its a positioning battle to try and get your sword against the opposing fists.

I do Axe champions for Khorne squads and Fist champions for Nurgle. Sword/ PP for the Tzeentch and Slaanesh squads. I run all iconed squads though so they have been that way for a while, now my Khorne champs are chopping folks in half while the Nurgle champs look to get that stick in on a 2+save enemy.

Axes for terminators, power weapons for Sargent, fists for anything with a 2+ save.
That said, axes work great for infantry units that need some extra anti- TEQ stuff, plus it's the same price as a normal power weapon, just needs to be modeled properly.
Power lances however work great on things with long charge and movement distances, that +1 str is wonderful.
