Deathwatch units tend to be 5 man squads per the fluff, at least for kill teams. They all tend to have either different weapons and/or the same designation (assault marine, tactical)
Using blood angels might work, since they can get quite a few "apothecaries" on the field, and they can put special weapons in their squads sooner than vanilla marines, but then again the next vanilla marine book may allow you to run deathwatch, so who knows?

Take a GK army, take Coteaz, and one ordo Xeno's inquisitor, fill slots with henchmen and assassins.
Take Codex: Space marine allies, take a captain, and one 5-10 man sternguard squad with some tactical marines.
Paint black. There, an anti-Xeno's infantry force!
For a pure Deathwatch, I'd suggest standardized Codex: Space marine, with Ordo Xenos allies.

You might be able to fudge something using the SW codex. The lone wolfs spring to mind for the "death watch Kill Marine" reference by Asherian for instance.

I'd echo ZebioLizard2 but the other way around. Take the GK as allies rather than primary, but take Coteaz so you can take the retinue as a troops option and you wont have to take grey knights. Then you wont be restricted in your SM options.

Take Space Marine Sternguard Veterans with Pedro Kantor as your HQ. Take squads of Inquisitorial Stormtroopers and have them counts-as Space Marine Scouts. You can even give them locator beacons so if you're doing drop pod Sternguard they can drop right in the heart of the action, and thanks to Pedro they're scoring.
Considering the big thing about Sternguard is "pew pew special bullets" and that's generally the same for Deathwatch, they're the best way to go. Also you don't have to touch the Grey Knights codex to do so and will avoid any accusations of cheesiness or filthy feelings that are often associated with coming into contact with that book.

Yeh or just grow a pair and ignore any such accusations.

I just don't find the endless raging and bitching on forums such as this worth it. That and Grey Knights don't work for Deathwatch since they don't have specialized ammunition and Deathwatch aren't supposed to get force weapons or psychic powers.

Neither myself or ZebioLizard2 who suggested grey knights allies were doing so for the grey knights, but for the Inquisitor an retinue.

I've seen similar ideas come up fairly frequently in other Deathwatch threads is all.

Space Wolves, Lone Wolves would be excellent kill marines, Long Fangs would fit in the expertise of the deathwatch, and Wolf Guard could go as standard marines (using grimnar as hq)

Think of allies in 6th edition.
I would go with the Pedro idea as the base and then perhaps storm ravens with guard or grey knight(inquisitor) base. If you go GK, please don't do inquisitor-monkey madness or deathcult pukes.

Which is why I only suggest the inquisitors + henchmen for Ordo xeno's myself along with the assassins, rather than anything regarding the silver powered armor ones.

Depends on where you look.
GW Deathwatch is small teams of Space Marines led by either an Inquisitor or a Captain and equipped by the Inquisition, or Ordo Xenos Kill-Teams led by a single DW Marine with the rest consisting of normal humans (Inquisitorial operatives).
You are probably referring to FFG's version, however, that is essentially a Chapter in its own right, deploying entire armoured formations and not being subject to the Ordo Xenos any longer.
The latter would fit to OP's intentions, the former not so much.
I think ZebioLizard2's idea of a combined GK/ DW strike force is the closest you can get if you want to stick to GW's fluff. If you don't care about it, use the alternative he mentioned and use the Vanilla Marine 'dex.

Boom! Leman Russ Commander
|
I planned out a Deathwatch army earlier this year and used the Crimson Fist rules from the SM codex.
I used:
Kantor - a DW Watch Commander.
Librarian - DW librarian.
Sternguard - Kill Teams.
Scout - DW Scouts.
This was just the base. Now with 6th, you can use allies and I strongly suggest using Space Wolves as you can create the other unique DW characters like:
Black Shield - Lone Wolf.
Keeper - Either a Lone Wolf or one of the many HQ.
The list goes on.
