Do you have to put the type of PW on your list?

and if not... why not?

There is no demand to do this. It might be a good idea for your own sake though to remember wich model is armed with what.

I have a little hobby-thread going in the P&M section. Some say it's the best blog on Dakka, some don't agree, most belive it would be better if I finished at least one project some time this century and not just kept starting new ones.
Check it out, you just might like it.

No.

The Sub-type is on the model.

You only get a Power Axe in 2 Situations:

1) Your model has an Axe as a Power weapon.

2) The rules/Purchase option Specifies Power Axe.

The Above is true for Power Mauls, Power Swords, and Power Lances; it is just that everybody seems to think that the Axe is the best of the group.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.
Stop looking for buzz words and start reading the whole sentences.

I see no reason that you shouldn't. It's ultimately no different to choosing Codex Psychic Powers, or any other optional gear.

That being said, it won't make much difference one way or the other if your models are WYSIWYG.

This. Although if you want to be known as TFG, show up to every game with all your Power Weapon arms magnetized.

Heh, I'm actually planning on doing this, but I wouldn't be changing weapons each game depending on opponent; it'd be decided when I write the list. No different, IMHO, to having different models to choose from in the first place.

To the OP: there is no requirement for it, though I'd personally do it just for completeness. It also helps to determine a unit's role when writing your list.

But it would be okay if I had enough sergeants to pick the ones I wanted to use, right? :eyeroll

No, TFG would model his space marines with a Power Axe in one hand and a Power Sword in the other, having the pistol in the holster, and not making the decision of what weapon he is using until it's first combat.

It wouldn't be WYSIWYG if the model has more options that it is eligible to have at one time, are there any space marines that can? If they can' it wouldn't be any different than choosing to use regular attacks on initiative instead of a powerfist...

Technically, no.

From a courtesy standpoint, you should write it down and have the WYSIWYG model.

The only thing thats certain is that you can't swap the model out midgame.

Which would fall apart during deployment, when his opponent notices that the model is not WYSIWYG and asks for clarification on just which weapons the model is supposed to be carrying.
