We spent the weekend at the wargames show at Bovington Tank Museum with our trade stand, the guys from our local club and Simple Miniatures were playing paticipation games of Infinity on a 4x4 table on the Saturday with a huge demo game on the Sunday. This was on a 12x4 table (actually thinking about it i may have been 8x4) with 6 players over the whole day, the objective was for PanO to defend against Yu Jing attacking from the mountain end and Ariadna storming the beaches. £ outposts were on the board with victory going to whoever controlled the most by the end of the day. We didn't get to play sadly, being on our stand, but we went to have a look a few times and it looked like the guys were having a lot of fun!

In the end victory was given to the Yu JIng team, as the Ariadnans got held up on the beaches by a Jotum with sniper support. Apparently they were dropping like flies but the docs did a good job of getting them back on their feet. By the end they'd managed to swarm over one outpost, but had a long way to go to get to the next and they were going to be confronted by a truckload of Yu Jing heavies by the time they got there. PanO brought 3 TAGs to the party, but none of them were standing by the end of the game Yu Jing had cleared most of the middle of PanO troops and were firmly in control of one outpost ready to breach the fences to get to the middle one.

The demo table for the Saturday looked awesome and I was itching to play, outposts, fences and tanktraps scattered around hills looked awesome and everywhere you looked you could imagine a firefight breaking out We had some of our new dragon's teeth and quick deploy barriers on the table, as well as a few noodle bars that we built and sprayed to look a bit more military the night before. The dragon's teeth looked awesome and apparently worked really well for filling in some of the emptier spaces.

We provided most of the terrain, the guys from the club provided the rest, the board and the armies. As we only got to see it a few times the photos aren't very narrative as a lot happened between photo sessions, but hopefully they give the impression of the event.

Wow-= thanks for the great photos!

I have one question about a game of that size- how the hell do you deal with that many AROs? I mean, LOS-blocking terrain is great, but everytime something moves in the open it must get lit up by a hundred enemy troops. Was there some sort of limit on number of AROs you could declare to something?

Also, how many turns did they get through? And how many points were there per side?

Glad to see the true and just rulers of the universe won though . Woot, go YJ!

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

I wasn't playing so couldn't comment on how the AROs worked, I do know it was played as basically 2 2V2s, so Ariadna wouldn't generate or get AROs against Yu Jing. It must have worked out OK though based on the positions of the models every time I went past, and there was a lot of LOS blocking terrain.

I think it worked out as PanO had 25% less points than the combined total of Ariadna and Yu Jing, so there must have been around 2000 points on the board.

Really wish I'd been playing

I feel famous! At least you only got my Smurf T-shirt though!

It was an awesome game! Harry mate, it was indeed a 12x4 table!

ARO wasn't too much of an issue as from the start we said that no one could see over the centre line. Effectively making it two 6x4 games. This meant that the PanO wouldn't get mullered in the first few turns as they'd spend their whole ARO's turning to face whoever was shooting them in the arse! And the Yu Jing and Ariadna forces didn't have to worry too much about mega long range shots.

I played with the JOTUM who really was a beast. He held up the Ariadna almost by himself to a point where I just strolled him out of the safety of his own base and straight up to meet them on the beach!

But alas he fell and they could then make their way up. But not quick enough as the Yu Jing broke the PanO lines with relative ease and so were able to postion themselves nicely on top of the objectives.

As it was more of a demo game none of us took it too seriously so any AROs that we missed we just shrugged it off. The important ones were usually spotted!

With about two hours to go till close we deactivated the centre line boundary and decided to remove the unconscious as if they were dead and then say everything goes straight to dead thereafter. This actually made the game flow even better and as you can imagine a hell of a lot quicker. People just got on with it rather than trying to save everyone!!

Although we didn't plan the game out particularly well it did go an awful lot better than we expected.

Hoping to do it again in the near future! Just with a lot better planning!

Thanks mate. It did take a little getting used to as my painting style is usually quite dark and battle worn with 40k stuff and malifaux. With my Infinity i painted the starter set my usual style but it just didn't work. So I went back and repainted them keeping the colours clean and bold. I think they look much better now.

If I get a chance I must update my gallery with my newer stuff. I just haven't had time recently to get on and upload anything, I also had a blog somewhere too!

Not mine mate. Although I did do him the 'default' on the box colours so there's probably a few around that look similar.
