Hey guys, I've been confused lately about the typhoon missile launcher still being strength 8 two shots or was it nerfed back to it's original stats in the codex? I'm making an army list for them and I need to know

Thats a cyclone missile launcher, Typhoons are different.

RAW returned to the old, gakky version as it's no longer Errata'd.

If the Typhoon is in the new rulebook then I think you'll be able to claim that profile instead. SInce those particular entries should trump the ones in your codex.

Oh really?! Then it is Heavy 2 Strength 8! It's in the rulebook. Are you sure it isn't still go by codex?

I'm sure it says somewhere in the rulebook that if a weapon has different entries in the Main Rulebook and the Codex, always go by the codex.

Well fair enough. I was just saying he could claim them, thats all. Why should his Typhoon missile launchers be different from everybody elses? I'm not even a BT player and I wouldn't even deny those I come up against that.

To me it should be all updated weaponry in rulebook, unless FAQed. Sadly it isn't..

Oh I agree completely, I'm just playing the devil's advocate here, but RAW there's nothing saying that Templars get the "new" Typhoon Multiple Missile Launcher.

Which is where house rules and discussing things with your opponent before hand come into play...

It's not rules lawyering. While there's an updated set of stats in the rulebook, the rulebook also says that Codex entries trump rulebook entries. Erratas trump both. If there's an updated set of stats in the rulebook, it doesn't really mean anything, as if the rules in the codex are different, you have to go by the rulebook entry. If a FAQ or Errata says otherwise, you go by the FAQ or Errata.

I don't even know why they bothered putting anything other than universal weapons (like power weapons, power fists, etc) in the rulebook. They're always going to be supersceded by the codex entry, even if they're the same.

Doesn't change the fact that rules lawyers will still take advantage of this. I can't honestly see why the BT Typhoon missile launcher is supposed to be only one shot compared to everyone elses. Its obviously not meant to be like that. Even if the process of coming to the decision is not rules lawyering per se, only a rules lawyer would use it to their advantage. EIther that of TFG will do it.

In future codices they can just say "Look at 40k rulebook for details", like they do for some of the weapons. The reason for this is so the rules can be updated universally whenever they do a rulebook update to help keep the game balanced with each version.

Black templars typhoons have been talked about in several threads already, and yes, they revert back to the old "gakky" version.
If you want proof of this, just look at the faqs for BT and DA. Both of these books have older versions of the typhoon, and in their old faw, both had been updated to be the same as other marines. In the current version of the faq, DA have the newer version of the typhoon, whereas BT do not. This was probably just an oversight, but if you go by RAW, BT have the older style typhoons.

I know that calling up GW and requesting an answer from the customer service rep isn't an acceptable answer for play, but perhaps somebody could call and request that it be addressed in an FAQ fix?

I would like to put this issue to rest. This is an error in the English codex. Please check the German Black Templars 6th Edition codex, or any other language version for that matter. There is an entry for page 39 and 48 which clearly indicates that, yes, the Black Templars Typhoon is still a Heavy 2 Missile Launcher, and yes, this is an error only. This is definitive proof, unless non-English speaking Typhoons are supposed to be somehow better??
