The fact that someone actually said this is baffling to me.
Trustee Frazier added, "You have to measure every human by the good they've done and the bad they've done. I'm not trying to make light of what we've found in the report, but I will say that if you want to measure the man's life," you have to measure the good and bad. "I think we have to take some reflection and some distance before we make decisions about what we think about Joe Paterno's entire life."
I don't care how many football games a man leads his team to victory in, or how much money he raising for charity. Enabling the raping of kids on a semi regular basis wipes that all away and then some. The fact that people covered this up doesn't necessarily surprise me - worse things have been done by better men. What saddens me is that we live in an age where the people who knew don't even have the decency to go eat a bullet when they are found out.

But Bromsy, wait, you mean success in sports doesn't equate to moral superiority and a sense of entitlement to freedom from judgment for past actions? I'm shocked. Shocked I tell you.

You don't have to tell me, I live in the middle of PA, JoPat is treated like some recently deceased saint here, my last store manager had a shrine to him in his office... the gakker.
But I did just hear calls for his statue to be torn down on national news, CNN, so fingers crossed.

Here's another article on the report.
PHILADELPHIA—Releasing a full report of his investigation into the Penn State scandal at a press conference Thursday morning, former FBI director Louis J. Freeh disclosed that the late Joe Paterno was indeed burning in hell at this very moment for his part in covering up the sexual abuse of young boys. "My examination of the available documents found that Jerry Sandusky's activities were almost certainly known to Coach Paterno, who failed to act appropriately in reporting or following up on certain incidents and who is indeed shrieking in indescribable anguish as the searing flames of hell devour his flesh for all eternity," Freeh told reporters, adding that Paterno's firing by the university was also warranted. "Every moment since his death has been one of pure suffering and excruciating, flesh-melting torment, based on the interdepartmental communications given to us for review." Freeh refused to confirm whether Penn State fans and alumni who supported Paterno during the scandal would also eventually burn in hell, saying they had "the remainder of their lives" to reflect and repent and "may still escape eternal and painful damnation."

Although really, it could have been another business with maniacal fans and a carefully-crafted image they wanted to protect. Apple, anyone?
The thing that surprises me -- and it seems like no one else has mentioned this -- is that all of them were willing to protect the brand (i.e. the Joe Paterno "legacy") over self-preservation. It's a safe assumption that they're all utterly morally bankrupt, right? But even if that's the case, wouldn't you think one of them would have acted to protect himself out of self-interest? Maybe not JoePa, but one of the others?
"Umm...yeah, I'm gonna be completely ruined in every sense by this if it comes out, and it probably will since Sandusky parades these kids around everywhere publicly. So feth you guys, feth the Penn State brand and feth the JoePa legacy, I'm going to make sure I'm the first one to go to the police so my butt's covered."
CEOs and executives bail on companies all the time to protect themselves. They tend not to go down with the ship. I'm surprised that all of them did in this case. It seems like these guys were actually drinking the Kool-Aid as much as their most devoted football fans. And believe me, plenty are still in denial over the whole thing.
What a cult.

An entertainment business perhaps.
Like movies or games.
Except with less originality, less creativity, less impact on technology, less of just about anything redeemable...
