[1999+1]

Now, this is to accomodate the +1 tournaments that will be 2000pt, but not allowing the double-FOC. Also, it can be a 1999pt list by dropping the Combi-Melta off the Libby. Easy as can be.

What does this list have going for it? 3++ everywhere, as well as AP1 Chainfists, CMLs for ranged firepower, and some Fearless across the table. Also, the Command Squad has a 5+ FNP, too. All said and done, this should be an army that deep strikes in partially (except those hunkering on home objectives) and just hold their ground, while beating face with a plethora of TH/SS and TLC attacks.

Thoughts? How does this look like it will hold up to the initial 6th ed metagame? How about for future releases?

I think the changes to Power Weapons AP3 will make this army very difficult for a lot of people.

But the new trend seems to be flyers for a lot of people.

Having 2-4 Flying Monsterous Creatures runing around that you can't really deal with and just taking pot shots at you will just wear you down, even with 2+/3++ saves. It just happens.

Also I see a lot of IG people taking 130 Vindeta's, that is at least 9 re-roll to his str 9 AP2 guns running around that can snap fire you all game.

I would def say play test this, but I would suggest investing in something cheap, like 1-2 Aegis Defense lines with the 72'' range guns to drop those fliers out of the sky so your terminators can get to their meaty centers.

Keep in mind I should have ~2 Krak missiles hitting per turn. That is not great, but I might stop flyers faster than I lose my Terminators. I just need to test it a bit.

Why the TH/SS on Belial? I tend to give him LC as he has that higher initiative, and this keeps it. I understand his 5+ invuln is nothing spectacular, but you shouldn't be using it all that much if you sit him in the middle of one of those th/ss squads, especially if it's the one with the FNP.

True enough. I will probably magnetize them all just in case they get a huge change in the new 'dex.

Oh, and one other thing - as I just mentioned in a couple of other Deathwing army list posts, if you put your heavy weapon on the sergeant, you can save your expensive heavy weapon with "Lookout Sir."

I don't see Deathwing listed in the Appendix of the BRB. That might be an annoying issue.

Yea, but he is I5, which isn't too shabby with a pair of Lighting Claws. With Look out, Sir! on a 2+ and a 2+ armor save, how often will he be taking those nasty wounds? Just put S8 or ID wounds on other folks first and let him light up the enemy with lots of AP3 Claws nastiness.

I will try both, if I can get this army built before they get a new 'dex.

I agree that Belial needs a TH/SS no eternal warrior is bad. Not only that but with the mass plasma that will probably be seen you cannot rely on the fact that the terminators in front of his are going to survive before they get to combat. This list is most likely going to stand their ground and shoot, this means they will get shot against armies with mass AP 2 Str 8 like Eldar or Dark Eldar the more 3++ the better.

With FNP getting pushed to 5+ it is not as reliable as before so while it will be welcomed of course you cannot rely on that as much as before.

Remember with the newe rules closest model takes wound first.

Also if you are in a challenge that stormshield can be quite important

Yea, challenges. Forgot about those silly things. If I wanted to play WHFB, I would. C'est la vie. I think that seals the deal more than the threat of AP2 weaponry.

Your librarian is leadership 9 which is a bit weak, you could better spend the points.

Then termies are great as they are hard wearing and kill quite nicely.
The issues with them are they are quite immobile and not killy enough.

I would supplement their shooting with some vindicators or preds or those cheap typhoons with MM to add variety to the shots and give more blast for your buck.
I would in general not teleport, Deathwing work better together shooting, now most armies will have something on the board.

What's the local scene looking at playing? You were pretty clear on the 'no double FOC' area, but what about allies? I ask mainly b/c I anticipate Farseers with Runes of Warding to ba a popular choice if allies are allowed.

This edition has DW looking fairly decent, although I'm a bit fuzzy on how popular fliers could become. Right now, your army just screams 'ignore the fliers and kill everything else'. Not saying that is a bad strategy, but it does lack reliable means to stop fliers.

When I've played against Deathwing, I've found they worked better when they could mutually support one another. 5 Terminators, I can handle. When 20 more are standing right next to those 5, not so much.

I've got a feeling Plasma may make a return, but only in codexes where you can get it cheap (IE: I won't be bothering with Starcannons in my Eldar army). But, you've got a significant amount of Stormshields and ruins is still a 4+, which is a fairly common piece of terrain.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

Mobility would be added by including a Land Raider Crusader to ferry some assault terminators...

Yep, its a deathwing list. Will still lose how it did in 5th (FF) but even moreso now that ap 2 will be more popular. But that's me

If you want to keep it pure Dark Angles and no allies I always felt deathwing could use a pair of godhammer land raiders to provide fire support and some speeders to be johnny on the spot with MM's.

To really deal with flyers you'll have to turn to allies. It's a same they didn't include the option to purchase AA missles in FAQ's...but oh well.

Good lists, (with good generals), didn't lose too many times. In tournaments(during 5th) in particular they punched above their 4th edition status and especially so given not many people fielded them.

Deathwing and Dark Angels have a very small range of reasonable lists which leads to them out matched unless you stream lined your list.

Way too early to judge 6th. However, I reckon they will do well as they have 2+ saves, until people react and bring plasmas, then they'll get a new codex and shine again, then after 4 more codices in the edition they will fade again with codex creep, before in the start of 7th they get boosted by a FAQ that updates their rules to the current marine codices in 7th.

For now they look like god allies for most forces at the very least.
