Hey, I just painted this up for a painting contest. I spent something like 20 hours on it, and I wanted to share it. Hope you like it!

Though well executed, I'm not a big fan of the orange shading on yellow. Very nice blending though!

It's yellow ochre, not orange, but I guess it does look that way. It's Vermin Brown into Vomit Brown into Golden Yellow into Tamiya Flat Yellow.

good choice on yellow since it can be tricky. While the model does look great, the dark needs to be a browner color imo. great job on technique!

The paint is well done... The pose is a little off to me though, perhaps is the Bolter and Bolt Pistol. Not a killer just my opinion.

Well done.

it definitely looks like you spent 20 hours on it. Well done.

Ask yourself: have you rated a gallery image today?

I agree, I don't love the pose. The bolter arm is awkward because I'm not very good at converting yet. I think the Imperial Aquilla on the chest plate is the most visually interesting part of a Space Marine model, and I don't like that the standard Space Marine pose covers it up.

I also agree with everyone who says that the dark parts need to be browner. Next display model for my army will start at a darker brown.

Shameless self-plug, but my painting and modeling blog is linked in my signature, and it shows just how much I've improved on this army in the past year. My first marine looks terrible compared to this guy, whom I am very proud of.

A suggestion for the pose would be in the future. To use a straight arm such as the one holding the pistol and put it down at his side as if he pulled out the pistol to blast an enemy who was bearing down on him and his bolter clip just ran dry. or even find an open hand and lay the bolter down on the ground as if he just dropped it because he had no more bolter shells for it.

Thanks! I like that idea. I'd have to try to find a way to model a small pile of spent shells to get the effect across.

Also, I hadn't said it yet, but thanks for the kind words from everyone. And all of the feedback is much appreciated, it's how I improve.
