With the new rules for big guns, wouldn't it be possible to take 3 lobbas, max out on extra grot crew, and line them up in front.
Shooting at big guns says to use the guns toughness of 7.
Seems extremely durable for the cost.
The fact that it tosses out some S5 indirect fire too is gravy.

Is it worth using a heavy support slot for it? I think not but thats just my opinion.

Orks = 4500 pts
Space Wolves = 2000pts

Hmm, that would be an amusing variation on traditional KFF protection.

I certainly think it could work as protection for relatively static squads, e.g. Lootas.

I wouldn't do lobbas. You can get Kannons for 5 points cheaper per gun, and they can snap fire too!

You would go for all the crew and runtherd and ammo runts behind a ADL then I would agree.
Why lobbas? Kannons are awesome, especially with toughness cannon fodder and some cover.

The funny thing is that a squad of 3 Big Gunz (lobbas or kannons) are cheaper than a Mek w/ KFF. I may have to try this.

18000 , 5000 , 2000 , 1000 , 1000 , ???

Well, a Basic KFF Big Mek that has survivability for 6th, costs 96 points (KFF, 'Eavy Armor, and Cybork Body).

A maximized Big Gunz battery that has survivability for 6th costs 88 points (3 kannons, 6 additional grots, and a runther).

However, you still have to have some grots in BtB with the kannons or they can't fire/move, and wound allocation can take them out first.

S5 Lobba forces wounds to be allocated on models closest to the center of the blast.
So that 88 points of shooing that drops 3 S5 blasts actually has a pretty good chance at taking out a sarg/heavy weapon.
Yeah, the Kannon could snap fire 3 rokkits, but not on over-watch and not if it moves. That only leaves fliers as snap fire options, and I'm fairly underwhelmed with that. I'd much rather have to option to single out an enemy with blast placement.

What else are you going to use your Heavy Support for?
Dreads and Kans are worse, Battle Wagons you can get with elites. Are you loading up on looted wagons and Flash Gits?

Page 46 - You just have to have a crewman within 2', not needing to be BtB. It doesn't say a single crewman can't fire more than one gun so all you really need is one grot in the back and 11 up front for ablative wounds. (2 per gun and buy another 6) Can also have a runthurd too for another wound. He's actually a character too so wierdly enough, you can challenge with him.
