Hey i'm a part time 40k player. My poison of choice is Chaos Space Marines, I wanna try out this additional army thing from 6th edition rules, and seeing as I can be battle brothers with them I want to choose the Chaos Daemons.

My question for you guys is which of the daemon army do you think I should start purchasing? Are some better than others or do they all have their ups and downs? I'm leaning towards a Khorne army with Bloodthirster at the helm but I would gladly take any advice you want to give on which might be the best choice for me!

Just a little sidenote: I play against orcs, tyranids and tau so if theres a Daemon god better attuned to deal with these armies I would certainly like to hear about it. My Thanks in advance!

Right now it looks like Lords of Change are the top contenders for the HQ spot. As they are base Str 8 because their power weapon counts as a power maul. Giving them +2 Str. They still hit at ap 2 for being monsterous creatures. Plus they get some shooting powers, and have access to more ranged powers. and have a 3++ save.

Also, Breath of Chaos, a 30 point upgrade. woulds on a 4+ template weapon with no saves allowed.

Fiends are awesome 6 attacks on the charge, rending, hit and run, and they ignore all terrain.

I am a big fan of 5 man horror squads with bolt. Cheap troops, fairly good shooting, and because of their 4++ they can be resilient as well. Last week I ran 2 squads agains't tau and they tore up just about any squad that wasn't in cover.

Flying demon princes are great as well. Not sure how well they would be against hordes though.

Shameless link to my painting blog :

Bloodthirster is the best HQ. Lord of Change is a close 2nd.

Fiends are the best CC Elite although Flamers are just plain nasty when they land where you want them to. They are a total suicide unit but can be a lot of fun against certain armies. Crushers used to be the staple for me but since they changed Wound Allocation and FC got Nerfed they aren't as awesome as they used to be.

As far as troops are concerned its pretty much Plaguebearers to hold objectives and Horrors to land and blow stuff up. Be it a small squad with a Bolt of Tzeentch to mess up a vehicle or a blob squad to throw out mass anti-infantry evilness. Bloodletters aren't good and neither are Daemonettes.

Flesh Hounds are useful against Grey Knights and pretty much useless against everyone else. Mounted Daemonettes are overhyped in my opinion and have never accomplished crap for me except dying. Screamers are really good if used properly and you can hide them. Furies suck.

For Heavies there are several options. A winged DP of Nurgle decked out for CC is basically a miniature Bloodthirster except better in some ways because he has access to a wargear upgrade that gives him frag grenades. Khorne DP is good against Grey Knights because of Blessing. Tzeentch one is a really good fire platform for what you pay for it. The Slaanesh one can be good if decked out for close combat with Pavane but I never had any luck with it. Soul Grinders are great for the points you pay for them. I recommend going either heavy with DP's or heavy on Grinders as mix matching them tends to not work well. One grinder by itself will die, 2 last longer and 3 can be sickening. Same effect with DP's.

Been playing Daemons for the last 2 years now so I hope this helps.

Have to disagree on the daemonettes and letters. You don't want to go throwing them against termies for sure but they're power weapon AP3 toting awesome infantry. Daemonettes forgive me if I'm forgetting but I thought they had hit and run which is GREAT.

At the OP tbh, you might want to try daemons at the helm with CSM as most of your troops. Daemons heavy elite and HQ slots are nasty but the troops are somewhat lacking (IMO) but you can find a happy medium going either way.

Bloodletters die way too easy and Daemonettes are even easier. The mounted ones have bike bases and are sometimes hard to place on a deep strike in large squad sizes which is what you would want them to be at.

If you really want to use Bloodletters or Daemonettes then I suggest fielding them in pretty good sized squads. 15 would be a good number. 10 man squads of either one will get shot to pieces way too easy. You gotta remember you don't have to wipe out a Bloodletter squad to cripple them, just get them down to about 3 or 4 left. You will notice their effectiveness in CC goes down considerably. Same with Daemonettes except its even easier to shoot them to pieces since they are T3

I appreciate all the feedback you guys are giving me, it's a lot more to think about! I think I like the idea of using 5 man horror squads with bolt of change. I tend to have to fight a lot of tanks so it sounds pretty nice to me! I don't have tons of money to spend on another army so I wanna make sure I buy the right pieces that will help to assist my CSM to further glory!

Thanks Again guys, the feedback helps a ton!
